COVID-19: Discussion of Impact 😷

i was speakig to one of the rph readers at my vountenteering work place this morning and she was saying shes going to put if off for a bit ( she is in the age range to get 1b) she said the media fear mongering is not helping people in her age range actually get the vaccine

The key points from National Cabinet today

If you missed all that, here’s the quick version of what the Prime Minister just spoke about:

  • Australia has secured an extra 20 million doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine , expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2021, bringing Australia’s total order of Pfizer vaccines to 40 million
  • The National Cabinet agreed to release more data about Australia’s vaccine rollout
  • Australia set a new record for COVID-19 vaccinations in one day — 81,297
  • The current phases of Australia’s vaccine rollout will be “largely unchanged” because of the new AstraZeneca advice. By the time a majority of under-50s become eligible the new doses of Pfzier should be arriving
  • The Prime Minister is seeking advice on how and when Australia can open its borders again (but no timeline on that is available yet)
  • Vaccine consent forms will be available today

States and territories agree to have more consistent restrictions

The Prime Minsiter said the states and territories agreed to adopt the AHPPC advice of easing restrictions.

This includes:

  • Venues adopt the one per 2sm rule, and no stricter
  • Agree to adopt the AHPPC advice that large, ticketed and seated gatherings can have 100 per cent capacity
  • They agreed to prioritise local containment measures and aim for outbreak responses that keep internal borders open was agreed today

We should still be getting a significant supply of doses in the coming months that we had already been committed too.

Of course - you are always providing your consent for any vaccine that you take anyway. It’s just being more aware of the risks. Under 50s can still take it if they choose.

Exactly this. It’s easy to point blame when this is very new medical advice. I still believe the benefit significantly outweighs the risk.

Off the back of everything hopefully the vaccination program doesn’t slow down too much. The next two phases should still continue as planned in the coming months and then there should be more doses of Pfizer for the younger population when it gets to that.

WA has eased restrictions
,From midnight tomorrow, that is 12.01am Saturday, April 10, we will be raising capacity limits for certain indoor and outdoor venue with fixed seating to 100%, with no upper numerical cap.:
• auditoriums and amphitheatres
• theatres
• concert halls
• cinemas
• comedy lounges
• performing arts centres
Major venues such as Optus Stadium, RAC Arena, HBF Stadium and HBF Park will be able to have 100% of the fixed seating capacity in the spectator seating and special seating spaces.

Places of worship will be able to have 100% capacity of a space being used for formal worship.

there is still the 75% limit for resturants, lubs and cafés with dedicated seating, and the two square metre rule for pubs, nightclubs, bars and other music events, will remain in place at this stage.

with the coninuted abscence of coumminty transmission is WA and the role out of the vaccine in vunerable groups the WA CHO antipates that the benefits of retaining the final physical distancing and mass gathering restrictions may well be reduced and could be removed.he CHO has recommended that the situation be reviewed in one month’s time, with further advice to be provided.

i know when the times comes from me since iam in 2b i will be asking my gp what one suites me better

Western Australia will also open up its border to travellers from other states where there has been 14 days without a case of community transmitted coronavirus, down from 28 days.
he new 14-day benchmark will mean that, pending no further outbreaks, Queensland will be classed as a ‘very low risk’ state from Monday April 19.

I wonder how UQ is feeling right now?
IIRC, all indications were that they had a safe and effective, locally made vaccine, it was only dumped because of false positives on HIV tests for a short period after receiving the dose. With the way the govt is reacting over these blood clots, seems like the UQ might have been a better option?

Vaccine safety has always been paramount in Victoria. That is no different with COVID-19 vaccines.

We have always been guided by the expert advice of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI), the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), and the advice of our own medical experts.

Yesterday, ATAGI made a number of recommendations to the Commonwealth Government concerning the administration of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

In accordance with those recommendations, the Victorian Department of Health has written to health services administering COVID-19 vaccines to communicate these recommendations and ensure they are observed.

These recommendations clearly have implications for the Australian Government’s vaccine program rollout across all states and territories. Victorian health officials will have further discussions with the Commonwealth on these matters today.

Health services administering COVID-19 vaccines in Victoria are doing an outstanding job. They will observe ATAGI’s recommendations to ensure we are achieving the highest levels of safety and quality.

Victorians who have any questions about their health or about AstraZeneca should consult their doctor.

and this is now the Victorian Deparement of Health reponse :

I am still happy to get the AstraZeneca. A couple of blood clots - I would just keep an eye out for symptoms.

same here @turdall

I had a feeling it might come to this if there were issues with a vaccine, that some experts who wouldn’t recommend taking a risk on death with COVID-19 would however recommend taking a risk on a vaccine.

I would in an instant trade me getting a Pfizer for being under 50 for my at risk mother in 1b’s AZ.

There’s only so much Pfizer available - so I’d rather wait longer for it or get AZ, than for someone with higher risk of death from Covid getting the less effective one because young people have been prioritised. While AZ is quite effective, the Pfizer’s increased effectiveness is so much larger than the increased risk AZ would pose to me.
