Yes, with all the lockdowns and restrictions in place it’s finally subsiding. Especially in the US and UK. Might be too early to tell if the vaccine is making an impact.

It is way too early to tell if the vaccine is impacting. Mainly because most of the vaccines take 4 weeks to be effective. A friend of mine in the UK got the vaccine and was told she needs to be careful for the next 4 weeks at it takes that long to be effective and she could still be at a great risk to catch the virus in that time.

Victoria has today recorded 28 consecutive days of no new locally acquired cases.

On ABC News Radio this morning, a France 24 reporter discussed the latest lockdown in France. She mentioned that apart from non-essential stores, large supermarkets that have an area larger than 20,000 square metres must also close. I think she’s referring to the likes of Carrefour which have department stores and supermarkets under one roof.
She also said that the current ski season had been curtailed.

It looks like the UK strain behaves differently with the case/death lag time? all year there has been a 2 week lag time for the death graph to follow the same pattern as the case graph. but in the last month cases in the UK have fallen dramatically from a peak of over 68,000 a month ago to under 20k now. but the deaths have barely dropped at all. Seems like in the UK people are sick for longer and die weeks later than they used to.

Despite the big drop in cases the UK is still second only to Portugal with the worlds worst deaths per capita per day.

That’s what happens when your hospitals are over run and you a prioritising people who are young and sending the elderly home to die:

Yes I think that’s it. It’s not necessarily the strain but the healthcare system is overrun so the death rates are remaining high.

We have achieved elimination, again.

A really good write up of the Australian covid success in the new york times. Interesting quotes about the lack of interest shown from America and Europe.

Ask Australians about the approach, and they might just shrug. Instead of loneliness and grief or outcries over impingements on their freedom, they’ve gotten used to a routine of short-term pain for collective gain.

Investigations are underway into potential transmission of coronavirus between hotel quarantine residents at the Park Royal after two groups on the same floor returned genome testing for the same UK variant. All positive cases were moved to a health hotel and remain in isolation. CCTV is being reviewed, but it’s not believed the residents breached any infection prevention and control measures or had contact with staff .More at 4pm adst with lisa neville _ Bridget Rollason twitter

So.
An identical covid strain has shown up in positive cases in 2 rooms of 1 hotel floor.
No links between the returning travellers.
No breach of protocols by staff or guests.
No ventilation system problems.
No community leak.

Why don’t you just post the Twitter link to all of these tweets?

That would indicate aerosol spread and AHPPC PPE requirements are only effective against droplets. Any front line medical staff or those in hotel quarantine should be using N95 masks at minimum. It’s becoming clear that COVID is/can be spread by aerosol.

Recent spate of COVID cases in high rise apartments in Hong Kong prove the virus can be spread by aerosols, either along the internal corridor, through sewerage pipes linking units with the same orientation across several floors, or light well between units.

Yep and if that is the case our PPE guidelines need to be updated.

What state?

They’re saying because there was a family of 5 - all positive - in the one room, the viral load was too high and just opening the door was enough to spread it.
