It was the single deadliest terrorist attack in human history; 2,977 died.

Now, COVID-19 has trumped that grim marker, with more than 3,000 people dying with the disease on Wednesday (local time), according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.

Ellen DeGeneres has tested positive for COVID-19.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Health Minister Greg Hunt held a press conference at Parliament House just after 8am AEDT today. Morrison said that Australia is increasing access to the Novavaxeen vaccine from 40 million to 51 million. More than 50 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine have also been ordered, which more than cover the entire Australian population. The AstraZeneca vaccines will be manufactured here in Melbourne by CSL.

Honestly not surprised considering she was still doing shows with an audience during the surge. Anything could’ve happened.

Steve Marshall should offer some accommodation vouchers or something to WA’s with family in SA. This would really boost the tourism in the state.

42 consecutive days (six weeks) of no new cases for Victoria.

How long is this count going to keep on for? You don’t see the other states such as WA and QLD doing this.

Queensland Premier Annastasia Palaszczuk has been tweeting her state’s COVID numbers daily.

No. I’m saying the whole ā€œ42 daysā€. Literally counting the days.

To be fair DHHS are not quoting the days. Their tweet does not mention ā€œ42 days of zero casesā€ it is just the media drumming up counting days.

Some people find comfort in how long the streak of zeros has been in Melbourne which really is astonishing… if you don’t like it scroll past, not hard.

I think it just shows how proud melbourne are for their efforts to get to that 0. But yes the constant counting can be funny.

I agree. I have family in Melbourne so this is good for me to see on a daily basis.

42 itself is notable as being three cycles of the 14 day period. If people were hesitant at 28 days, 42 should give a lot of confidence of elimination.

You didn’t seem to like when it was reported that we achieved ā€œeliminationā€ and now you seem to question people being proud of what we are continuing to achieve. If you lived through it maybe you’d better understand.

Neither of those states that you mentioned recently spent almost 4 months in lockdown either or ever had anywhere the number of cases / transmission that Victoria had. Yet they do still celebrate certain milestones.

 So sick of hearing ā€œyou don’t know what it’s likeā€.

Honestly. You have no idea what other people have been through in their life. There are much worse things than having to stay at home.

We have to be really careful with milestones - as more pass, the risk is we increasingly become more complacent about the need to follow the basic principles especially as there is a decent amount of restriction fatigue

The road back to lockdown is a hell of a lot shorter than the road out and while its good that we have experienced X days of no new cases (outside of HQ), we arent without cases in Australia and a breach or slipup in HQ can put us back to high case numbers again in only a matter of days.

If you think it’s been as simple as ā€œhaving to stay homeā€ for everyone in Victoria then that is pure ignorance. We are talking about a very tough year for everyone, particularly Victoria, so there is nothing wrong with anybody recognising or celebrating some achievements that most thought were unachievable.

Also the longer we go without cases increases the confidence of the position we are in. There is nothing wrong with being happy about that. Today we hit 6 weeks which is 3 lifecycles of the virus without a new case. This is one more lifecycle from ā€œeliminationā€ so in my mind this is a great day to boost confidence that we are in a really good place.

I would assume it’ll move to months at some point, as it did with WA and perhaps other states.

Victoria has recorded no new local cases for the 43rd consecutive day but has recorded its first hotel quarantine cases since the program resumed on Monday.

My workplace has stopped temperature checking upon entry earlier this week and has introduced a QR code system instead, where it needs our name, contact number, estimated time of arrival and departure.

Even though the company has my details, I think our staff ID cards could be used for contact tracing as we need it to enter/exit the building. Surly the security system keeps a log of who has entered etc. If you’re a visitor, yes of course use the QR code.

At least now I won’t either be too hot or dead now. My temperature was all over the place.
