If this happened to me when I was living in the UK I just wouldnât be able to afford it. The school year is just finishing so I would have just been getting back after finishing work for the school year. I wouldnât have an extra $3000 to afford the quarantine. There are definitely going to be genuine cases where people can only get back now.
273 new cases in Victoria overnight. A man in his 70âs has passed away too.
Remote learning for Government Schools in Metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire for Prep - Year 10 students from July 20 to August 19. Year 11 & 12 students will return to face to face learning tomorrow.
So will Specialist Schools and Year 10 students who do VCAL and VCE.
The numbers are still high but hopefully theyâve stabilised a bit and we donât see much more of an increase. Still a few more days until we see the real impacts of lockdowns as we are at about the 10 day mark since the hotspot lockdowns and outside that most people presenting now would have contracted over a week ago. If we arenât starting to see a drop by the end of this week that will be a concern.
As unlike with the 1st wave, there seems be a lot more community transmissions this time, which I suspect may take longer to control. I hope Iâm wrong.
These would still be cases from before lockdown. We probably wonât see decreases for another 5-7 days.
No sign of the wife and kids
It is becoming a growing concern.
What are our predictions for this time next week in NSW? I think NSW Health are doing a relatively good job and it may not escalate, rather just hover around single figure cases each day??
This time next week it will stay similar to now. But NSW will see a spike again.
Re our PM that is really not a good look.
As victoria has shown, no matter what the govt does, their actions can only get them so far. It only takes one person to break the rules and ruin it for everyone.
The current hotel cluster might be brought under control, but I think it is inevitable that NSW and other states will have an outbreak. There is still a long time to go, and a lot that can go wrong between now and vaccine time. Perhaps around xmas, when there is more demand from returning travelers and resources are more stretched, and more demand to remove gathering restrictions.
Victoriaâs outbreak happened while they had the best testing and strictest restrictions in the country. I think other states are more vulnerable to outbreaks being detected later and spreading faster when it does happen.
The crossroads outbreak is potentially a good case study (depending on the result) in how we need to act with these breakouts, the need for rapid popup testing is key as well.
It is a good sign they are going hard. They want to open up to the rest of the country.
Yeah I thought that was quite a good introduction. Not something we saw in Victoria.
Had to visit someone in hospital (hopefully for a brief stay) and the security was intense. Only one visitor at at tie. You need to register upon entering the facility and are given a short term password that you then have to give to security before being allowed to enter the ward.
Wow thatâs not the case here in SA. I visited my grandmother. Had to pass a check. Where I just answered questions and got my temperature checked. 2 of us were allowed in at a time.
May have also been higher security and caution than other areas because it was maternity.
I suspect that the government will allow people who canât afford to pre-pay for the quarantine to pay it back later.
Thereâs been enough time given for overseas Australians to come home already. In case of a family emergency (dying relatives, etc.) the exemptions are there anyway, so I really donât see the problem with this.
This. I have no doubt the default will be some type of payment plan unless people voluntarily pay the whole lot up front.
There must be thousands of young people that are doing a year abroad, that left in Jan, stayed overseas during covid but will want to come back for Xmas, and donât have $3000.
Itâs a good policy, hopefully it deters travelers that werenât deterred by the uncertainty of travel, the common good or the virus itself. I would have done it differently and applied it only to people that left the country after the travel ban was in place in March, instead of based on the day the ticked was bought.
