17 days without a positive case in Tasmania and stage 2 restrictions have now been brought forward from June 15th to 3pm this Friday which is just in time for the long weekend.
Weird that only a month ago we were heading out of being one of the worst outbreaks in the country with the hospital.
Has anyone else on here been tested? I was tested today as a result of showing the symptoms and I must say it was incredibly uncomfortable. That was a few hours ago and I still have a sore sensation right up my nostril.
Havenāt been tested but know quite a few who have⦠unfortunately itās not a pleasant thing which in a way was a good way to advertise to people to follow the rules because the test wasnāt fun. Hope youāre feeling better again soon, from the probing and the initial symptoms.
I have.
This is what I recommend a few weeks back.
A travel bubble between our smaller states first. Help open up tourism and our airline industry.
Obsessively, our two larger states will be in their own bubble until numbers continue to fall.
Sign US has given up on crisis:
Itās odd that the test is somewhat invasive yet itās so easy to spread.
As I understand it the issue is the current test relies on picking up actual virus particles, so the swab goes to where itās known thereāll be the highest virus concentration.
Most tests (for other infections) actually look for antibodies the immune system has produced; when an antibody test is readily available for SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19) it should be much less invasive and perhaps more importantly itāll mean we can know if someone has previously had COVID-19 and is immune.
When I see all this protesting and rioting in the US I just keep thinking⦠have they forgotten about the Corona? Mass crowds of people not socially distancing and so many images of people hugging, shaking hands etc. Yet when I look at the stats on Worldometer the number of new cases has dropped to around 20-25k per day. Itās probable that not many people have been testing the last week but I will be shocked if there isnāt a huge spike soon.
It was barely even on their radar in the first place.
Weāll know in 2 weeks with the US. As horrible as the situation is over there Iām sure it will be studied in great detail to see what infection rates do in cities with consistently high turnouts for protests.
This IS good news
Some good news in NSW
I think the media is really overlooking the spread of coronavirus throughout the world, It is still a big problem internationally. some stats from worldometer;
- the world had almost 130,000 new cases yesterday, a new high.
- There are a lot of countries still experiencing their worst days yet; Nepal, Iraq, Ethiopia, South Africa, Mali, Armenia, Haiti, Colombia, Ivory Coast, Argentina, North Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Mexico, Malaysia and Costa Rica all posing record new daily cases in the last 2 days.
- Brazil had over 31,000 new cases in one day on Thursday.
- Iran had their worst day yet with 3574 new cases, 2 and a half months after their previous high. Their 2nd wave is on track to be worse than the first.
- I think its only a matter of days before central Asia is declared the new epicentre. India, Pakistan and Bangladesh have high total cases and are still increasing fast.
Its as if the world doesnāt care anymore. The news has definitely begun to decline.
I feel like the media mostly focused on USA, Italy and the UK. Outside of that thereās little coverage. I guess as things get better here and there is less fear they think there is less interest in other countries.
Thatās interesting about Iran. I always wondered if their numbers were truly reflective because after the initial spike it seemed to slow and they werenāt as strict on restrictions as a lot of places.
Im still predicting a spike in US in the next few days. That is if they are testing effectively, which they probably arenāt anymore.
VICTORIA recorded an additional 3 new cases today
NEW SOUTH WALES recoded an additional 4 new cases today.
All of these are from returning travellers (bar 1).
I feel our two biggest states are a little disadvantage due to most international travellers arriving in Sydney and Melbourne.
I also find it strange that the media has reported widely āfears of a second waveā in South korea, japan, germany and china after one day of increased numbers. In every case it has fizzed out and just been a small cluster. but actual second waves and big outbreaks go un-reported.
I feel bad for many countries who are probably just at the tip of the coronavirus iceberg. Clearly if action was taken earlier things mightāve been a bit better.
Iām thankful to be in Australia where weāve been pushed into doing the right thing and now weāve got this virus largely under control.
I agree, the media coverage of Coronavirus has dramatically decreased, but could this be for good reason? The last few weeks, Australia has seen some fantastic results, even NSW and VIC are experiencing some early signs of eradicating/reducing community transmission. I donāt think the virus itself is the biggest news story in Australia anymore, probably replaced by the economic responses and the detailing of the road to recovery.
