Today’s death toll likely means that Australia’s 7 day death average is at an all time high. Topping that period at the end of Melbournes 2nd wave where a lot of historical deaths were added.
It would be, I don’t think we’ve seen over 40 COVID deaths a day before.
Deaths are playing catch up. Like Covid. These are the people Covid was always gonna take sadly. Just delayed from 2020 and 2021
Data today presented in Queensland in summary says Unvaccinated Queenslanders ‘nine times more likely to end up in hospital’, than those who’ve had the booster shot.
CHO
“If you are unvaccinated, you are nine times more likely to end up in hospital than if you have received a boosted vaccination,” he said.
"We know that double vaccination is not as good as triple vaccination in terms of preventing hospitalisation and particularly [we’re] seeing a large proportion of the hospitalised are more vulnerable.
This is continually frustrating to see these sorts of stats. Our hospital systems are facing a lot of pressure from people that have chosen not to be vaccinated. I honestly just don’t understand how anyone in the current environment could be comfortably going about day to day if not vaccinated. It’s astonishing.
I’m really liking the updates from the new QLD CHO this outbreak. It’s been good to have a CHO with a bit of a different perspective and I find him really interesting to listen too.
to be honest I’m taking info from him even though I am in vic lol
I wish a national conversation would start about a Singapore-style charging for healthcare for the unvaccinated. Or even a refusal to treat the vaccinated in public hospitals.
Its probably too late to implement for this wave, but start the warnings now for implementation in the next wave. Should be an essential part of living with covid. The vaccinated have done their part and should be protected, choosing to remain unvaccinated is a choice to take on health and economic risk.
I’m surprised the liberals haven’t considered it. Considering they won’t pay for RAT tests I don’t understand why this isn’t even a conversation.
Interesting that in South Africa, deaths are still increasing, despite cases peaking and dropping precipitously a month ago. Similar in Zimabwe. looks like the 2 week lag between cases and deaths from previous strains is more like a 5 week lag with omicron. Bad news for Australia and the rest of the world, where omicron outbreaks are much worse.
Vaccination rates in South Africa are much, much lower however, which to me indicates that those who get seriously ill with Omicron and are not vaccinated are the ones who end up dying (with the greater lag time).
With our vaccination rates, this should drastically reduce the number of deaths even with very high case numbers and it will most likely be primarily the unvaccinated contributing to the death toll.
NSW numbers will be interesting tomorrow…. Apparently 53,000 RAT reports today on ServiceNSW already
We might hit 6 figures in NSW alone with PCR tests added in.
I recall a clip of ScoMo saying “we are not going to hit 200k in a day, that’s ridiculous” a few weeks ago in response to a report.
that might not age well.
I presume like Victoria this will be for multiple days. I’m sure the media will make this clear and not cause further distress by focussing on the total.
wtf is this?
Is it real? It almost looks like a deepfake.
Unless you need chopping board purchasing tips, if you’ve reached that end of the internet, it’s time to turn it off and go outside.
And your true colours come shining through.
Just to be clear, I don’t follow Avi. I heard about this story on the radio so went to twitter to try find a clip, came up with this.
