This woke me up! Felt like someone was shaking the bed.
Anyone else in WA feel it?
It’s the 2nd time I’ve experienced an earthquake, following Newcastle 1989. That was much scarier since i was lot closer to the epicentre.

Seems to becoming a common occurrence in Australia these days.
Probably connected to climate change in some way.
I’m assuming you meant it as sarcasm, but nevertheless…
The whole notion of ‘earthquake weather’ is baloney; there are no inherent connections between the atmosphere (where weather happens) and the lithosphere (the surface of the Earth and everything below it, where earthquakes happen).
Brisbane going for 29 deg on Sunday and Tuesday
Ipswich 30 deg on Tuesday (though 8 deg in the morning ! )
Rockhampton 30 deg Monday , 31 deg Tues and Wed ( average is normally 24.9 deg)
On the plus side unlike summer, lower humidity, lower dew points , sun not as strong being winter and much lower minimums in the morning being still in winter.
Not unusual (especially these days) for SEQ to tickle 30 at this time of year. The last couple of springs have been cooler in the east due to the negative IOD, and predominantly easterly winds arising from positive SAM and La Nina.
This spring will be a big reality check. If you want cool and wet, WA will be the place to be during this next drought phase.
‘Two for twenty-two.’
Marvellous temperatures, those.
That’s your kind of weather I think… not tchoo hot.
BOM been wrong every day of this heat.
Yesterday we reached 24.4 forecast said 26
Today says 27 deg … we have had a seabreeze come in early and it is 22 deg currently in Yeppoon… for it to get to 27 deg the seabreeze will have to die off and that is not happening
Friday and up to today so far
Rockhampton much warmer
We had the hottest day on record 31.5 deg beating 30.7 deg from Aug 19 2020.
It wasn’t too bad actually , dry air and not humid did not need a/c … got to 28 deg inside was also 13 deg in the morning so that helped too.
Crazy as this morning was 8 deg (normally 12.8 deg average ) but feels like was 3.5 deg.
Not looking good weather.com has 27 deg on Sept 1-3 … which is 3 deg above average… hope it is wrong and we end up cooler … as long as it isn’t muggy.
We’ve only had 6 days under 10 deg this whole winter vs 18 last year .
Early heat now mean big rains after Nino ends? Feb/March?
Note hottest on record ---- records only go back to 1994.
Holy crap it’s all happening in North America and surrounds… Tropical cyclone, earthquake (both around California!?!?), Mexico and Hawaii bushfires.
Prayers for Australia’s summer with El Niño.
Natural disasters are happening all over the world but most of them don’t get anywhere near the coverage that these North American ones do.
32.2 deg in Rockhampton today the average is 27.5 deg .
Yeppoon got to a more reasonable 24.2 deg which is 0.2 deg below !
What gets me is the BOM constantly gets the temps wrong for the coast. Today they said 27 deg it got to 24 , yesterday they said 26 deg it got to 23 deg.
A few days ago the BOM app said an 80 percent chance of 0 mm and just said partly cloudy and yet a storm came through .Rockhampton had damaging winds yet no storm warning was issued.
So as much as they forecast 7 days ahead i look ahead 24 hrs .
Unless the winds are coming off the land all day seems we are spared the heat for now .
I think we are going to experience some volatile conditions over the next 6 months. Heat obviously the driving force. Some states got in quick for aerial fire support, signed contacts early. Apparently Vic didn’t and got the scraps.
Melbourne is in for a shock next week. Polar blast today. 26/27 for the back half of next week. I nearly fell over. Pity most of us will be at work.
Penrith predicted to hit 34 degrees next weekend.
That’s VERY warm so early in spring, and not a good sign for summer.
Are we ready for a hot hot summer?
Probably not. We tend to just do nothing until the season arrives. One major criticism from me is the lack of pre readiness for what is likely to be a very hot few months.
