That could very well have been the first time I ever watched TV, it was the day I went home from hospital after being born. Hard to say though, can’t remember too much about that time, the 80’s were a crazy time.

Not sure if anyone is interested but this is how The Australian Women’s Weekly TV & Entertainment World listed programs in Western Australia, February 1982.

It took the unusual step of listing regional channels first before the Perth channels. Presumably to maintain the template of other states by having the left-hand page split up into half-page of listings and the other half being movie reviews.

The TV magazine (TV World) initially was a separate lift-out magazine from the Women’s Weekly but later it was re-named TV & Entertainment World and was incorporated into the back section of the main magazine with a ‘zip-out’ program guide.

Zip out? havent heard that for ages!

Surely by 1982 VEW8 had to be only channel broadcasting such a limited schedule

Omg. Tv powww! I used to love it!

NTD8 in Darwin was still operating on similar hours in 1982.

But on that listing I’m at a loss to explain what Sunshine was on GWN

Yes I remember TV Powww! They had that on BCV8 Bendigo (and relayed to sister stations in Gippsland and Mildura), and AMV4 Albury/RVN2 Wagga Wagga.
Here’s a clip from a US TV Powww episode

and the theme song:

It used to be on SEQ in Wide Bay/SC on Saturday mornings during their cartoon / music clip show Super Saturday.

I’m reminded that RTS5A in Riverland was also on similar hours as late as 1982, starting transmission at around 4.30pm each weekday. But RTS5A had only launched in 1976, and NTD8 in Darwin had basically re-started from scratch in 1975 after Cyclone Tracy.

The last year for Tasmania having only two commercial stations with TDT beginning to broadcast at the very end of the year ahead of a Jan 1 launch. Southern Cross had quite a mix of Seven and Ten programming (as compared to the later years when even though TDT wasn’t statewide, SC were dumping the Ten shows). In the evening you cna see Seven Melbourne had Grease but SC had Home and Away at 6:30 because we were months behind, Big Brother (Ten), Will and Grace (Seven or Ten?), Scrubs (Seven?), Charmed (Ten) and Secret Life of Us (Ten).

I believe the only extra digital multichannels at this time were SBS World News Channel, ABCKids (the original) and FlyTV.

From memory Home And Away was bumped to 6.30, and Today Tonight bumped entirely, to accommodate Big Brother at 7.00.

How did Southern Cross clear the backlog of Home And Away episodes to catch up to the mainland? Did they run double eps for a while or just got to a point where they skipped a whole chunk of episodes to bring them up to date?

And I’d forgotten all about Greeks On The Roof … oh dear.

Yeah, because we were behind they had the ability to bump Today Tonight for it. Tasmania never used to get the break over summer for Neighbours or Home and Away so a catch up of a couple of weeks would occur over those periods and I think there might have been some additional double eps slotted in. There was certainly no noticeable drop of episodes. I think there was also a bit of a catch up for Neighbours too prior to Southern Cross dropping it and it being exclusively on TDT from around 2006 I think.

I’m guessing Grease was a late schedule change which pushed everything back?
No love for Seven Late News pushed back to 12.45am. I think it was axed that year.

Weird question?
Does anyone have any Tasmania/Victoria comparisons from early-mid October of any year from 2003-2006 by chance?

Back in the day Tasmania used to start daylight saving 3 weeks before the mainland, and I can remember seeing the Tasmanian listings had a heap of programs pushed back 1 hour for a few weeks, but i’ve never been able to find any listings since.

It changed each year how it was handled, TDT used to just run the entire schedule an hour behind. The first couple of years they had a thing stuck on the screen saying an hour later in Tasmania - ie, promo still said it would be 7:30 but we’d know in Tasmania it would be 8:30. Later years they didn’t even do that so all programming was an hour out and the promo times were an hour out.

WIN and Southern Cross used to have to adjust schedules, if we were behind in shows like Neighbours and Home and Away it was fine, they could still run at the standard time. Other shows were simply an hour late. Some years shows like Blue Heelers or All Saints were seen an hour before the mainland and other years they were delayed an hour.

Today and Sunrise used to have really bad looking clock cover ups stuck over the on screen clocks so at least they had the correct time.

Radio had similar issues with keeping up. It was a great day when the other states finally aligned their start date with Tasmania!

I remember that Triple J used to do separate time calls for Tasmania. “It’s 10 past 10 now, 10 past 11 in Tassie…”

The ABC were pretty good, would often do a special edition of AM and early AM and their other current affairs programs.
