@Bluenoser I think you have mixed up Go! and Gem’s guides.

I did enjoy the Greek Come Dine With Me. Pity SBS didn’t keep showing it.

That’s what I get for trying to list them by channel :stuck_out_tongue:…listing has been fixed.

gosh this was back in 2003???

lol

Wimbledon pushed the normally midnight broadcast to 6am. Used to happen lot in Sydney with AFL coverage.

What the hell was Stripsearch?

The hunt for Australia’s newest stripper. Male if I recall correctly. I don’t think even Channel 9 dared to make it about female strippers.

Um, why would a FTA be showing this? (Not a World Cup or tournament also involving the Wallabies, was just a mid year game)

Yeah, does seem odd. If it was on at midnight in Melbourne, does that mean it had a better timeslot into Sydney / Brisbane?

Might also have something to do with C7 sport, which closed down the previous year. Did they used to show Rugby internationals?

^ Good times. Back when we weren’t infested with morning news/talk and afternoon news.

I’m pretty sure this was the night the ATN7 signal completely died for several hours during the Manchester broadcast.

Interesting seeing how similar TVT6 and TNT9 were but also how different. I saw The Simpsons in the Tas TV guide there but couldn’t remember getting many episodes on Southern Cross and sure enough, SC had A Country Practice and Beyond 2000 which TasTV didn’t get.

I remember all the shows on ABC in the morning though, they were the ones I’d get up and watch until Dad got up and turned it to Today.

I remember reading somewhere at that time, after 1994 in Tasmania when aggregation occurred there some Ten Network shows that Southern Cross didn’t want/couldn’t fit in the schedule were on Tas TV/WIN, the Simpsons being one of them. I recall seeing programme guides in the Australian that the Simpsons were on WIN in Tasmania.

Also why were Melbourne stations listed in the Tasmanian editions of TV Week, were there any parts of Tasmania that can receive them apart from King Island and maybe Flinders Island?

Can’t remember TasTV/WIN showing The Simpsons but we weren’t allowed to watch it so I can’t really say! I do remember getting it very snowy from Ten Melbourne some summer evenings. No areas of Tas could permanently get Victorian TV but in summer it was quite common to be able to get them when tropospheric ducting was occurring.

I remember hearing stories while I was at TAFE about someone receiving TNT9 years ago and then rebroadcasting it around the Circular Head area on Channel 8 or something because in the summer months there was mixed pictures on TNT9 and GTV9. Not sure how accurate those reports are, apparently eventually they got asked to stop because the ABA found out, TNT9 knew and weren’t concerned because it meant one less repeater they needed.

Surprised that Southern Cross would choose to relinquish The Simpsons. I’d never heard of TASTV/WIN taking up any Network Ten programs on that basis.

While some fortuitous reception of Melbourne channels could be found in Tasmania I’m not entirely sure why Melbourne channels featured in TV Week other than just for reasons of formatting. In the late 1960s the Tasmanian edition of TV Week was essentially the Melbourne edition with an added insert of just the Tasmanian listings. This sort of format continued in various forms even into the 1980s. TV Week’s program guide reformatting in the late 1980s saw the Tasmanian edition feature the 4 local channels ABC, TAS TV South, SBS and TAS TV North on one page with the four Melbourne channels on the opposite page – in lieu of the double-page spread of listings in other metro editions. (The two separate TAS TV listings were despite the two channels basically carrying identical programming. Perhaps this was pre-empting the eventual split of the 2 TAS TV channels into separate operators which came in 1989)

When the listings changed to colour pages and to six columns (five channels + movie reviews), with only two commercials channels in Tasmania as opposed to three in other cities this left a “spare” column to be filled. TV Week’s Tasmanian edition used to fill that spare with abbreviated listings of Seven, Nine and Ten in Melbourne.

Classic TV listing in Canberra Times Thursday November 20, 1980. Around the same time RVN2 Wagga’s listing appeared in their TV guide for the first time.
