Back in the early to mid-eighties, Happy Days was the fill in program in Brisbane or Merrie Melodies if there was anything less than 25 minutes to fill.

Winter Olympics on TEN and ONE. Surprised TEN only bid for Sochi 2014 broadcast rights and not Sochi/Rio combined. 10 had full coverage across two linear channels and on TenPlay

It seems the IOC split Sochi and Rio apart as it didn’t get its asking price for them combined. Which probably means why Ten got Sochi for a “low” $20 million. The IOC then sought to combine 2016, 2018 and 2020 Games.

Seven ultimately got Rio 2016, PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020 (in 2021) and they had an option to extend to Beijing 2022 and Paris 2024 back in August that year.

Seven got Beijing 2022 announced at their upfronts in October 2020 but Nine got the full rights for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics this year and for the foreseeable future.

Anyone remember the sitcom Blossom ?

Many people remember it nowadays with Mayim Bialik’s career revival

I’m more taken by 7s strategy of getting a family type audience that Blossom would attract to stick around for Man O Man

I noticed that the Annual Academy Awards were shown during Primetime back in the early days. As the years went past, there was live coverage on Nine.

Two episodes of Mrs Bucket on the ABC at 7:30. My Dad would run away to choir practice(aka drinks) while my Mum and Grandmother watched it.

Great review of The Nanny.

New here I was wondering why did channel 9 have WCW Nitro the 1hr edition and did they ever show pay per views? Or was it foxtel and Optus who had the rights to them.

It’s not uncommon for wrestling shows to have a 1-hour edited version for international markets. WWE has had them forever and there have been several periods where such shows have aired on FTA while the full shows have aired on FOXTEL.

Looks like someone at The Age accidentally swapped the hosts and commentators for the Australian GP.
