Classic TV Listings

Typical for that era, almost entirely American content. Even the ABC was delightfully light on for Australian programming apart from some schools programs, Kindergarten Playtime and the news…

The afternoon game shows on Seven were Australian but apart from the news pretty much the rest of the lineup is American… although they would have had a local host on Children’s Channel 7 to intro the cartoons etc.

I didn’t think Tasmania was a month ahead at the end of daylight saving, I only remember it during the month of October each year until 2006 when we always changed on the first Sunday of the month and the mainland states on the last Sunday of October. I’ve always remembered it as them all changing back at the same time (the last Sunday in March) until after the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne where all states aligned with the beginning of October start and the beginning of April finish.

When Tasmania was out of sync it used to change every year how the TV stations and radio stations handled it, was always an interesting time but some weeks we got to see Blue Heelers and All Saints before the rest of the country.

EDIT: Just found this site at the BoM with all the dates over history, very interesting to see how much it’s all varied and jumped around throughout time with all participating states seeming to have now settled on a full 6 month implementation.

It also looks like this line up occurred around 2008 not 2006 as I thought although that was the year it was extended to April.

A number of stations also aired coverage of the Gift on Monday:

1-4pm: HSV7, BTV6, GMV6
2-3.30pm: BCV8/STV8/GLV8 (TV8 aired live coverage of the Bendigo Easter Fair Procession before joining Gift coverage)
3.10-3.30pm: AMV4 (the only Victorian station that didn’t show Saturday’s race)
12.30-3:30pm CT: SES8

Thanks Bluenoser!

Interesting how SES8 took the VFL replay but RTS took the SANFL replay.
I’m surprised that AMV didn’t show the VFL back then?

I assume all the regionals including SES that took the VFL replay too HSV7 News prior to it.

Of all the TV guides I’ve had access to for Adelaide I don’t think I’ve ever come across any to feature the SBS test transmissions on ABC in that city. Thanks for sharing these!

It always surprised me that more stations in Victoria didn’t carry In Melbourne Tonight from GTV9, either on direct relay or even as packaged highlights (as often occurred to interstate stations). It was relayed to Gippsland via GLV10 every night but no other regional stations seemed to show an interest in it. Perhaps Nine wanted too much money for it.

this was a WIN4 production but picked up by the 0-10 Network in the eastern states, but it seems this is another one that was not to be picked up by SAS10, instead going to ADS7.

Also a bit unusual in that WIN4 and NWS9 were both owned by Rupert Murdoch but not even NWS picked up this show.

SAS10 back in 1976, not ADS10?

The only difference was the VFL Match of the Day was on RVN while AMV took movies. I remember when AMV was the only regional Victorian station not to carry Seven’s Big League on relay, surprising! Although they carried World of Sport on Sunday mornings and live Sunday arvo matches at the SCG when the Swans played at home.
