Ah yes… “Herdland” as it was constantly referred to here on MS at the time.

This ended up being a surprise ratings smash, and led to Ten commissioning an entire series of “Australia’s Brainiest” celebrity specials for 2006, rather than a normal “Brainiest Kid” season

First day of partial colour television, Sydney, 19 October 1974. I remember watching the baseball on Channel 7 from the Oriole Park stadium in Auburn, even though we didn’t get a colour television until early 1975. The stadium was abandoned years ago and was demolished a couple of years ago.

Oops, Geoff Flanagan and Pat Welsh are amongst golfers rather than commentators for the Australian Open golf on Seven.

Weekly guide for Western Australia repeater television stations HTWR7 Mt Tom Price, and HDWR7 Dampier relayed to HDWR7 Karratha. 26 October 1972. The stations were owned by Hamersley Iron. The programs were played from video tapes which were supplied free of charge by ABC Perth. Afternoon program were shown from 4:30 to 6:00pm, evening programs 7:30 to 11:00pm.

At some point these repeater stations went from being ABC relays to providing commercial network programming (e.g. “Mining Television Network”)

I have no idea what triggered the change. Just a wild guess that maybe it was decided by the mining companies that ran these “stations” that some money could be made by turning them into commercial channels. I need to do some research on that

Yes. I’ve been trying to do some research on it too, but info is scant apart from what’s on Trove and the ABT annual reports. HTWR was on-air for over ten years and at some point changed to a mixture of ABC, commercial and local sports programs.
