If you look hard enough YouTube has the 1991/92 18 footers season up. It would be on nine as the lunchtime fare for another season after this, then seven got the rights (the series was pretty much dead a couple of years later, seven then showed the 49er class as an Olympic lead in given the debut of that class was in Sydney), nine started The Cricket Show (which started as a pre-record, only going live about th time of the 1998/99 Ashes series) and the rest is history.

Only guessing given it was so long ago, but I suspect it would have been either Anderlecht Vs Chelsea, Liverpool Vs Betis or Porto Vs Rangers

I’m sure it would have been the ABC getting their own transmitters (or under the self-help scheme) in these areas linked via coaxial cable or satellite from ABW Perth. The mining stations would have then used their existing transmitters for commercial programmes sent via tape from GTS Port Pirie (as mentioned in the article on HTWR).

EDIT: SAS10 is listed to have a series return of “Matlock” (i.e. Matlock Police). It is not listed as a repeat but the episode dates back to 1976. The airing of the show’s last season, produced that year, seems to be very random. In Melbourne, for some reason, the last handful of episodes were held off from broadcast until 1979.

Also, SAS10’s sketch comedy series Ratbags was a drastically short-lived series made at Ten in Sydney. The series was so bad, apparently, that it didn’t even get picked up by Ten in Melbourne although it featured Melbourne comedians Rod Quantock and Mary Kenneally. The pair had better luck when they went across to the ABC a year or so later for Australia, You’re Standing In It
