Doubt this will happen, especially since Network Ten is under the ownership of ViacomCBS - perhaps Disney’s most arch rival!
Nine showing suburban soccer in the afternoon. Who would have thought?
I guess with VFL on Seven and ABC on Saturdays, and VFA on Channel 0 on Sundays, Nine needed a weekend sport to cover
Nine dropped their coverage of the VFL around 1974 in favour of the State League Soccer as it was able to broadcast the soccer live rather than an evening replay. Charlton had anchored their VFL coverage in previous years. They were also seeking an audience of post war migrants from Europe and the UK.
I think I read that from Gary Linnell’s book Fotball Limited must try and find a copy of that again.
ABC not opening transmission until 4pm on Saturdays. Regional commercial stations did the same too. Before transmission on Saturdays the ABC used to show local callsign test patterns with a high pitched tone.
Today’s TV: 12.9.1984, Melbourne / Country Victoria / South East SA

For some context, RTS5A is shown with a sign-on at 12.00pm. This was only on Wednesday, on all the other weekdays sign-on was at 4.30pm. It was not uncommon for a lot of regional stations in the earlier years to have midweek “matinee” programs while largely limited to late afternoon and prime time for the rest of the week.
And, Nine presents a special, Cut That Out, the first Australian ‘bloopers’ show.
I notice most regional channels had a five minute show at 5.55pm - CES Job Access / Job Shop / Access. What was it about? How many years did it run for?
The job ones I guess are just highlighting local job ads via CES.
No idea about Access from TV8. Maybe a community noticeboard segment? Or it could be a job thing like you mention. All I know is this opening title…

Hi-Fi music at midday on TCN sounds like Test Pattern?
In a way, yes. It was recognised early on that the TV sound channel, being FM, was vastly superior in sound quality to the AM stations of the era. Nine used to use it as a way of playing ‘radio stations’ with FM quality. It was just music, no commercials.
Also in those days TVs usually came with pretty decent speaker set ups in large wooden boxes. So it would have sounded a treat!
Not sure about that far back, but at least later in Brisbane, the commercial stations didn’t show an actual test pattern during these times. Rather they showed a rotating series of slides promoting their various programs. The only test patterns I ever saw in Brisbane were ABC, SBS and TVQ when it was testing channel 10.
That Days Semi-Final Matches shown on TV were:
South Sydney vs Balmain (One Half of the Current Wests Tigers Side) from the SCG.
Hawthorn vs Carlton from VFL Park (That became Waverley Park before it Closed in 1999).
Both ABC & TEN10 had NSWRL Semi Final on Replay while ATN7 broadcasted the VFL Semi-Final Live into Sydney while In Melbourne it was the other way Round with HSV7 shown the VFL Replay while ABC & ATV10 May have got the NSWRL match shown Live.
SES 8 Mt Gambier had CES Job Spot. Was locally produced and was presented in rotation by people employed at the CES office in Mt Gambier. They would read out details of jobs that were available, with an on screen graphic showing details such as experience required, salary, application details etc.
I noticed The Hi Hello Show on Seven. From memory the show was like a comedy show for kids. Filmed in Brisbane as well.
