4 stations with Brisbane/Queensland News at 6?
I guess over the coming years that turned out to be unsustainable.
ABC only had news at 6.00 on weekends, it was at its usual 7.00 on weeknights.
You’d think even back then the one coming last in the ratings (presumedly TV0) would have jumped the gun and gone at 5.30.
But different mindset back then (pre Foxtel and Internet) to today I guess.
The ABC news at 6.00 experiment didn’t last long, it was soon returned to 7.00 on weekends.
A resurgent Seven in 1988/89 eventually took a lot away from Ten and receivership and financial troubles eventually triggered Ten to tap into the alternative market and get out of the 6.00 contest.
what about Optus Vision?

The six-part mini-series Brides Of Christ debuts on ABC. It was a ratings hit, which probably justified them spending what must have cost them dearly for a full page ad in TV Week
One of the things that has surprised me going through this thread is how often ABC TV seemed to take out ads to promote their programs. By contrast, it’s something that rarely happens now outside of ABC platforms/outlets
I guess they had a budget to support external promotion in those days. Probably not much money for that sort of thing these days. Marketing costs are probably easily slashed when budgets are cut.
Back in the day ABC also wasn’t afraid to use commercial radio to promote ABC television programs, and commercial TV to advertise ABC radio.

Looking over that schedule… fans of old game shows would have loved Seven overnight… reruns of Play Your Cards Right, The Trivial Video Show and Press Your Luck.
Before overnight TV became overrun by infomercials
I have seen outdoor advertising for Stateless, but you are right that they are more likely to promote their iview or ABC channel than individual programs.
What were the rating between Seven Nightly News, National Nine News and Ten Eyewitnesses News at 6?
Broadly speaking, Nine was #1, Seven #2 and Ten #3. I think it was fairly close between Seven and Nine with Ten further behind. I don’t have specific numbers but it was only a few months before Ten moved its news from 6.00 to 5.00 to avoid taking on the others head on.
Ads on commercial radio for Esso Night at the Opera included a mention of the ABC FM simulcast, iirc.
Wasn’t 10 ahead for a while?
Few years earlier they were topping the ratings, this was Pearson’s second stint at 10 after her time at 9.
The Frasier finale was aired by Nine on Tuesday 22 November 2005, one and a half years after concluding its run in the US. It’s unbelievable! According to this promo, it was a 90-minute broadcast (“Goodnight Seattle” ran for an hour). I don’t know if “Analyzing the Laughter” (a special where Frasier Crane recalls his 11 years in Seattle with highlights of the shown thrown in) was aired.
Wonderful World of Disney on Ten, if you still have the rights to the classic episodes Ten please bring it back on Sunday nights! Disney product would be perfect for the new 10 Shake!
Seaquest DSV - one breakfast radio host in Melbourne at the time referred to it as “Desperately Seeking Viewers”.
