Most people probably don’t realise it

SBS transmits on the Channel 7 frequency in all mainland capital cities.

As well as in Hobart.

The 1973 Grammy Awards were shown on Seven, delayed by a week. They were noteworthy as Australian singer Helen Reddy won her first award.

Seven Sydney had no news bulletin on that Saturday in 1973? Strange.

Odd that Nine passed off Fanny by Gaslight as the Golden Years of Hollywood when it’s a British film.

Was Club 9 Sydney’s version Of HSV’s Penthouse Club?

I think it was more TCN’s version of ATN’s The Club Show with Rex Mossop.

Was harness racing involved? I see Rabs makingin an appearance there.

Looks like there was an accidental omission from the listings on that day. There’s news in ATN’s listings on other Saturdays that month. Not sure if Cheyenne is the 1947 movie or 1950s Tv series. Either way they wouldn’t have run for 2.5 hours. The movie has a running time of 99 minutes.

Interesting that TCN’s 8.30pm drama has recently had a remake that is currently airing. Thankfully times have changed enough that TEN’s 8pm offering will never see the light of day again in its original form or as a remake.

John Garfield and Penny Spence must’ve been given the flick as Ernie Sigley takes over hosting duties on Club 9. Club 9, AKA Ernie Sigley’s Club 9 and Sigley on Saturday was a variety show. Marilyn Mayo from Nine’s Super Flying Fun Show was also involved. It did include crosses to greyhound race meetings.

and my parents who lived in Shepparton until a few years ago used to refer to WIN as Channel 6 (as in GMV6) and Southern Cross Ten as Channel 8 (as in BCV8). My dad still calls the ABC TV rural programme “Landline” under its old name “Countrywide”. I used to work in a Melbourne city bank branch and one of the tellers referred to Westpac as “The Wales” and the manager said “The Wales! Geez you’re showing your age!”.

The Penthouse Club in Melbourne seems to have set the precedent for similar variety/racing shows across the country. Adelaide’s ADS7 also had its own Penthouse Club, with Bob Francis, Anne Wills and Sandy Roberts. TVW7 in Perth had Anything Goes, and BTQ7 also had its own Penthouse with Brian Tait, Rosemary Eather and Marie Knapp.

TCN9, circa 1972, also had British Comedy’s Gone To The Dogs, IIRC it was just UK sitcoms interspersed with live crosses to the greyhounds.

The format seemed to be a hit in the 1970s but fell out of favour by the end of the decade. Audiences had probably become a bit too sophisticated to watch the crosses between variety and greyhounds??

Channel 10 in Melbourne in 1980 tried to adapt the format, picking up the rights to the trots after HSV7 axed Penthouse Club but their version only lasted a few weeks.

Two 0-10 Network programmes on ADS7 The Mike Walsh Show and Casino 10. Maybe SAS10 knocked these shows back.

SAS10’s relationship with the eastern states 0-10 channels seemed to be a bit rocky through the 60s and 70s, quite a few 0-10 Network shows did not end up on Ten in Adelaide. Some went to Nine, some went to Seven.

The Comedy Company returns from a half-year break with a new series and a lot of new cast members. It never managed to recapture the popularity of its earlier seasons and was not renewed at the end of the year.

6.30 ABC More Winners :star_struck: wish they would repeat this and the first series, Winners.

Interesting to note that ATV10 got the State Bank Big Game live while Sydney and Brisbane got it on delay at 6pm. I thought they got it screened late at night in Melbourne.
