Classic TV Listings

I’m pretty sure all QLD regionals took BTQ News/State Affair from the beginning of 1983 (one microwave bearer only). By 1987, I think most regionals have access to satelite so took which ever news they liked. Certainly by 1988, NQTV was relaying QTQ, SEQ & MVQ were relaying BTQ (both owned by Skase) RTQ by the looks QTQ and DDQ were aligned with TVQ as they owned them for a short time from September 1987 to early 1988. DDQ could always relay whoever they liked being so close to Brisbane as they did off air in the early 70’s.

Here you go @digitaldan, from August 1983 and looks like RTQ was taking BTQ’s News/State Affair then so sometime between March and August they made the switch.

When I first got up to Rocky in 1990 (memory is sketchy because I was only 6 years old), I think they took 10 news on the weekend as that linked into the Rugby League telecast on Sunday night, but I have a funny feeling they did 9 news Monday-Friday. But the memory is a little bit dusty in that regard.

I think this confirms that TVQ relayed to RTQ from January 22:

Thanks, but I’m after listings that actually shows the Goodies episode as Kitten Kong, or gives a blurb about the episode being about a giant kitten. Trying to get a bit more specific.

Interesting to see ABC News at 6pm, was that the time it was on every night in 1990? Would love to see a weekday schedule from that period. Also Seven at 5.30 with the AFL highlights at 6pm. Interesting.

I think VFL/AFL highlights had always been shown at 6pm Saturdays on Seven until mid 1990s.

I wonder if the 7.30am Kids News on ATV10 is the WIN Television produced show or a different production?

Only on weekends. It was an odd change for them and I don’t think it lasted that long and it was soon back to 7.00.

Here ya go… I went forward a week to 11 June 1990 only because it shows that SBS had the FIFA World Cup, but because there was no SBS in country areas, ABC split regionals to a separate schedule to relay it there…

It probably was :stuck_out_tongue:

I couldn’t remember Seven showing highlights of Queen’s Birthday AFL matches in primetime. According to Wikipedia, there were three matches on that day: Melbourne v Carlton, Fitzroy v North Melbourne and Footscray v Richmond.

Thanks TVAU, that’s great. I presume the kids shows in the arvo on 7 were due to the holiday?

Yep. On the other weekdays they had Perry Mason, The Beverly Hillbillies and Bewitched between 2 and 4.00, except on days where the movie would end at 2.30pm and they’d have Perry Mason for an hour then skip to Bewitched at 3.30.

Looking at that guide and I remember Countdown Revolution. I think it was getting ratings that would embarrass even SBS but I liked it :stuck_out_tongue:

I believe the middle game was non-televised. I’ve definitely seen commentary on highlights of the game at The Kennel, and Melbourne and Carlton were closer to finals contention than the Lions or North.

AFL Matches on replay that night would have been Collingwood vs Melbourne and Fitzroy vs Hawthorn.

Amazing to think that the current Nine News Sydney presenters (Peter Overton and Georgie Gardner) were in this classic TV listing presenting Nine Morning News and Seven’s Late News, respectively.

To my knowledge this was Overton’s first major presenting role after joining Nine in 1991.

You’re probably right about the July 1997 (re)launch of National Nine Morning News being his big break, although one wonders if Peter Overton’s role in Nine’s coverage of the Super League verdict on 23/2/1996 was the moment many at the network started to think “this bloke has an extraordinary future ahead of him”?
