Forgot to note that he was also once a sports reporter for the network, and for Seven in Adelaide too.

Fast forward to now and he’s now been at the helm of Nine News Sydney for over a decade. His tenure got off to a rocky start, as many of you may know (going up against Ian Ross on Seven), but after Roscoe retired the masses who had stuck with him on Seven, started migrating back to Nine.

Didn’t know that Today Tonight took some time off for the Games. Also, the late morning-early afternoon coverage (AEST) would’ve been highlights as it was the graveyard slot in Athens.

Also well before the days of Hamish McLachlan…

Love how the still used Channel TWO to describe the ABC.

My parents still refer it to as Ch 2 these days.

That was when Our House and Money dominated Wednesday ratings and other networks had no answers against them.

Highlights during the morning and Sunrise was trimmed to 2 hours during the Games

What’s with the surfing? Bit far from the beach.

Even further if you were watching in Wagga Wagga

They broadcast into Wollongong didn’t they?

It would have broadcast across Southern NSW/ACT in 2001 so Wollongong, Canberra, Orange/Dubbo and Wagga Wagga.

At that time, Orange/Dubbo/Wagga were a combined market for Ten Capital while WIN and Prime7 split off.

Any idea what was happening in London for Brian Naylor to be reporting from there for Seven?

There was a British Airways air crash at Heathrow six days before. Was he sent there to cover that or was he in Europe preparing to cover the Munich Olympics?

No idea why he was there. I can’t imagine it would be because of the air crash, or not with enough advance notice to get into the TV guides. Could have been because of the Olympics, also noting that Channel 0 had a Munich preview in the afternoon – which is odd, given that 0-10 did not have any Olympics coverage.

He appeared to be there to report on the cricket.

Was Four Corners originally on Saturday nights or was this a replay?

originally on Saturday nights, with a repeat on Sunday afternoon.

I think it moved to Mondays sometime around 1986?

Given what transpired at the Munich Olympics, it was quite fortuitous to have the networks main newsreader relatively nearby!
