I recorded this that night and it was based on The Who’s famous rock opera from 1969 and starred Roger Daltrey as the title character.

Supporting cast included Elton John (Pinball Wizard), Paul Nicholas (Cousin Kevin), Ann-Margaret (Nora), Robert Powell (Captain Walker), Oliver Reed (“Uncle” Frank Hobbs), Tina Turner (The Acid Queen), Jack Nicholson (The Specialist) and Eric Clapton as The Hawker.

@OnAir The Simpsons first aired on Channel 2 (now TVNZ 2) at 9pm on the evening of Friday 4 January 1991 as a sandwich between reruns of the US sitcom Married
 with Children (at 8.30pm) and a new US documentary series, Top Cops (at 9.30pm). Believe me - The Simpsons is the longest running animated sitcom in the world and as such, is an international institution.

A new US sketch comedy series, In Living Color (similar to that of Saturday Night Live and featuring a youthful Jim Carrey), premiered at 10.30pm that night.

@Sheldon_Betteridge In fact, Family Guy was first aired in NZ on TV3 (now Three) at 8pm on the evening of Friday 7 April 2000 - right after King of the Hill (at 7.30pm). These were followed by JAG (at 8.30pm) and Stingers (at 9.30pm).
