Part one of Gloss: The First Year - a two-part retrospective of the first series of TVNZ’s high-glamour soap, Gloss - screened on Network Two (now TVNZ 2) at 8pm on the evening of Thursday 2 June 1988.

Arch-rival Rex (Peter Elliott) was undermining Maxine (Ilona Rodgers) and the new edition of “Gloss” was a pale shadow of its former self. Brad (Michael Morrissey) and Caro’s (Donna Clark) fairytale marriage was in trouble, and Alistair (Simon Prast) was among the first to offer condolences.

In part two, which screened the next week (Thursday 9 June 1988), Olivia (Yvonne Lawley) had a new grandson and Maxine was about to get a new daughter-in-law. The questions were, has Alistair bitten off more than he can chew? And who ‘was’ Aaron Sloane (Gary Day)? The answers to those questions would be revealed in Gloss II which commenced on Tuesday 21 June 1988.

Gloss II (13 x 1 hour episodes) aired Tuesdays at 9pm on Network Two, straight after The Flying Doctors, but the last two episodes were shown at 8.30pm.

Cant believe by 1988 the two networks didn’t commence broadcasting until 10am on weekdays. NZ was really deprived for choice until the early 90s.

Amazing line up of SPTV which today in my alternative theory would be better off under the private ownership instead of merging into TVNZ and being a youth channel

I made a list of children’s series that were aired here and not Australia. Thanks for the listings.
