That TV2 schedule is very different in earlier half of 1997 until The Bold and the Beautiful moved to TV One, is TV3 celebrating 50 years of candid camera to show only highlight?
Yes. It was.
Why SPTV only screening news headlines for five minutes opposed to their own half hour?
During the summer of 1979/80 - just before the merger of both TV One and South Pacific Television (SPTV) into TVNZ - SPTV screened a five-minute headline summary at 6pm in place of a full-length news bulletin, with a 10-15 minute bulletin later in the evening.
Imagine what NZ TV Channels look like today if TV One and SPTV did not merge
Hrm…
My scenario there would be no TV3 or SKY, and SPTV would later be privatised and would lead into New Zealand most watched TV network and TV One would become NZBC again

@OnAir A controversial Frontline documentary called “For the Public Good” was broadcast on TV One (now TVNZ 1) at 6.30pm on the evening of Sunday 29 April 1990. It explored the relationship between business and the then Labour Government (under Geoffrey Palmer as Prime Minister until he resigned on 4 September that year and was replaced by Mike Moore).
The screening of the documentary led to a complaint from the New Zealand Business Roundtable and Treasury and an order for TVNZ to broadcast a correction and apology and to refrain from broadcasting advertising programmes, i.e. no commercial breaks to be shown, via TV One from 6pm until closedown on the evening of Sunday 3 February 1991.
Despite being unlisted in the NZ Listener, a “One Network News: Gulf War Special” was shown at around 10.15pm - between the Five Nations rugby highlights and the one-off British drama “Chekhov in Yalta” (from ITV) as part of One Playhouse - with further updates at around 7.20pm and 9pm. These were presented from TVNZ’s Auckland newsroom by John Hawkesby, and provided us as New Zealanders with the latest developments in the Gulf.
Surprised One just did not closedown for the whole evening after One Network News?
Did they still interrupt programs with breaks showing promotions and interstitials that evening?
@TC25 TV One (now TVNZ 1) stayed on air until closedown at 11.50pm on the evening of Sunday 3 February 1991.
Programmes such as “You Rang, M’Lord?”, an Our World documentary (part one of “Antarctica: The Last Frontier”), a Sunday Theatre drama (“Frankenstein’s Baby”, starring Nigel Planer), the Five Nations rugby highlights and a One Playhouse drama (“Chekhov in Yalta”) were shown that evening.
There were promo breaks throughout, although commercial advertising was not shown and replaced with community service announcements where possible.
Seriously, they couldn’t resist butchering programs to force in Promo and CSA breaks? That is sad.
Wasn’t there a time when the Sunday night movie was the last bit of regular programming that was commercial free on NZ television? Was that butchered with Promo and CSA breaks too?
Please tell me Sunday mornings are still commercial free?
Would love to see the doco For the Public Good if it exists anywhere?
