@OnAir On the morning of Friday 1 November 1996, Cartoon Network screened on New Zealand television for the first time.
When Cartoon Network began it was shown on HBO (Sky Movies) between 6am-4pm. HBO showed uncut and uninterrupted movies each day from 4pm until Cartoon Network resumed at 6am the next morning. On New Year’s Day 1997, Cartoon Network was moved to Orange and HBO ran 24 hours a day.
Before Cartoon Network came along, HBO was broadcast 14 hours a day (from noon until closedown at around 2am) with 24-hour programming on weekends and over the public holidays where possible.
