“Heroes” premiered on TV2 (now TVNZ 2) at 7pm on the evening of Sunday 21 October 1984; it followed the triumphs and pitfalls of a band trying to make it in the New Zealand music business during the mid-1980s. The teen drama series - produced in-house by TVNZ - marked the first major role for Jay Laga’aia, and early leading parts for Michael Hurst and Margaret Umbers.

Wow. Full Frontal made it to NZ, even if it was on an overnight time slot. I wonder how many locals understood the Australian humour in that show?

It was a bit before my time, but I understand from my parents that it originally aired a bit earlier. This run looks like repeats.

Wasn’t there a New Zealand comedian or two during the earlier seasons of Full Frontal? That would partly explain why it aired on TV over there…

Never heard of THIS Sky channel before. Was this what Orange replaced in 1995?

Yup. Jennifer Ward-Lealand and Rima Te Waita.

@LiamP In the last few months of 1994, Sky launched two new channels: Discovery in October and Orange in December. In the NZ Listener, Discovery was originally known as “Sky 8” (to align with Sky’s old UHF channel - Channel 8). When Orange came along, it was broadcast on Channel 7.

@Mechsta “Full Frontal” was first broadcast on Channel 2 (now TVNZ 2) a year earlier. The first series was originally shown at 9.30pm on Thursday nights but moved to Tuesday nights by October 1993, and rerun in a late night/early morning timeslot.

You mean “Rima Te Wiata”?
