Of course, my condolences go out to everyone in New Zealand (and indeed, around Australia and the world) who’s been affected by today’s incidents in Christchurch.

I haven’t heard or seen anything about the Britomart bomb detonation on any of the networks apart from NZ Herald.
There was a bomb there? I guess there’s no other news today… probably will catch up on it tomorrow?
They were “two abandoned backpacks.” You can’t explicitly link them to today’s events. I think this is more of a result of the heightened security but just don’t know.

If they were abandoned we don’t know the circumstances so rather then risking it being something more sinister they performed a controlled explosion. That is why I assume it hasn’t been raised as of yet on the networks. Edit: Newshub has brought it up. Scaffolding equipment was found
They just had construction equipment in them apparently.

NZ is under level High for Terror threats, so if it looks dodgy, they’ll blow it up. It’s also why Turboprops can’t leave Harewood as they don’t have the bag-scanners in the Domestic Terminal.
