Christchurch Mosques Terror Attack - Coverage

Top story on DW

Thankfully the NSW premier has not completely ignored this tragedy, although I still genuinely wonder what she’s really thinking behind the scenes with a state election barely over one week away…

Of course, my condolences go out to everyone in New Zealand (and indeed, around Australia and the world) who’s been affected by today’s incidents in Christchurch.

I haven’t heard or seen anything about the Britomart bomb detonation on any of the networks apart from NZ Herald.

There was a bomb there? I guess there’s no other news today… probably will catch up on it tomorrow?

They were “two abandoned backpacks.” You can’t explicitly link them to today’s events. I think this is more of a result of the heightened security but just don’t know.

Ah so just regular abandoned backpacks that needed controlled explosions?!?

Former ChCh mayor Sir Bob Parker speaking to Tom McCrae right now.

You can see that NZBC training shining through still! Go Bob!

Some of Seven’s coverage this afternoon starting with their first News Flash that broke into programming across the network.

Ah never-mind they weren’t bombs.

If they were abandoned we don’t know the circumstances so rather then risking it being something more sinister they performed a controlled explosion. That is why I assume it hasn’t been raised as of yet on the networks. Edit: Newshub has brought it up. Scaffolding equipment was found

They just had construction equipment in them apparently.

I shall now go hide :upside_down_face:

NZ is under level High for Terror threats, so if it looks dodgy, they’ll blow it up. It’s also why Turboprops can’t leave Harewood as they don’t have the bag-scanners in the Domestic Terminal.
