CBS News

CBS This Morning co-host Charlie Rose has been suspended by the network and PBS radio after eight women came forward with sexual harassment allegations against him. The women were employees or aspired to work for Rose at the “Charlie Rose” show on PBS from the late 1990s to as recently as 2011. They ranged in age from 21 to 37 at the time of the alleged encounters.
Rose has since released a statement apologising for the inappropriate behaviour.

Jeez, what a creep! And he’s basically admitted to all of it.

Well I guess it’s marginally better that he owned up to it when caught, rather than taking the “choosing to live his life as a gay man” route.

But yeah, this whole scandal has blown up.

Wonder who will fill-in now that his primary fill-in, Jeff Glor, has been given Evening News?

I think I’ve missed something.

Norah made a statement at the top of the show this morning.

Some Charlie Rose highlights on CBS This Morning.

Hmm, perhaps “Last Week Tonight” (which is a great show, by the way - just a pity that it’s already finished for the year) was ahead of their time by highlighting those clips from CBS This Morning…

And he’s been fired, now.

Charlie Rose fired from CBS, effective immediately:

How many more sackings to come?

That’s kinda like asking how many weeds need to be plucked.

There won’t be any more sackings once the alleged have been exposed, had their day in court and either been found guilty or innocent. Then there will also need to be a complete cultural shift away from protecting big names from their misdeeds and towards more empathy and support for those who have been abused, provided of course that their claims are legitimate. More scandals like this will only continue to erupt so long as corporate culture favours protecting big people at the expense of little people.

This whole scandal over the last month or so is just a small number of high-profile examples. Part of me wonders what will change for those who don’t work in high-profile jobs and don’t have the ability to so easily speak out.

Jeff Glor begins as anchor at the CBS Evening News Monday, December 4.

Looks like they’re going for a slightly younger, somewhat laid-back, deconstructed vibe. Will be interesting to see what Jeff brings to the broadcast.

I do love his tweets #fontnerd
