Carols by Candlelight

CELEBRATING 80 YEARS

Sunday 24 December at 8.00pm

The Nine Network will broadcast the 80th Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight spectacular on Sunday, December 24, at 8.00pm, live from the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne and presented by Priceline Pharmacy.

Returning host David Campbell will be joined by Sonia Kruger to co-host the family favourite event together for the first time.

They’ll introduce a spectacular lineup of stars including:

  • The legendary Colin Hay
  • Uber talented singer/songwriter Casey Donovan
  • Aussie star of the American TV series Nashville, Clare Bowen
  • Broadway star from the Golden Globe-nominated film musical The Greatest Showman, Keala Settle
  • The casts of the two smash hit musicals Aladdin and Dream Lover
  • Australia’s leading ladies of musical theatre: Esther Hannaford, Lucy Durack and Christie Whelan-Browne
  • Joe Camilleri and his band The Black Sorrows to light up the bowl
  • The Koi Boys with their Christmas swing
  • Multi-award-winning country star, including 36 Golden Guitars, Troy Cassar-Daley
  • This year’s Australian Eurovision competitor and X Factor winner, Isaiah Firebrace
  • Winner of The Voice 2017, Judah Kelly
  • Hi-5, returning to dazzle the young and the young at heart, along with a visit from a special guest
  • And it wouldn’t be Christmas without returning Carols favourites Marina Prior, Anthony Callea, Tim Campbell, Denis Walter, David Hobson and Silvie Paladino, who this year makes her 20th Carols performance.

All under the baton of musical maestro John Foreman OAM and ably assisted by the Carols by Candlelight Choir Master Doug Heywood OAM, who this year celebrates 30 years at the event.

Carols by Candlelight presented by Priceline Pharmacy is Vision Australia’s largest annual fundraiser, with 100 per cent of profits from ticket sales and donations going towards services for children who are blind or have low vision. This year their Carols by Candlelight Matching Appeal aims to make Christmas four times brighter and will see all donations quadrupled in a 24-hour period over Christmas.

So she was driving for Uber to make a living. What a way to put the boot in Nine

…who also performed at Carols in the Domain 2017. Hopefully we’ll hear Lucy perform different songs this Sunday night!

Hello, cross promotion!

Hmm, I wonder if that could be…:santa:

I assume he’s wearing pants, as there’s only 2 people I can think of that could be the special guest and only one of them is covered below the waist.

For the first time in the event’s history, there is an audio description stream by people at Vision Australia which is available here for people who are blind or have low vision.

Wonderful opening - the veterans (who normally don’t appear until later):

Silvie Paladino, Denis Walter, Marina Prior, David Hobson.

Denis and Silvie also celebrating anniversaries this 80th Carols, Denis also singing again solo now.

Odd that it’s taken them until 2017 to do this given their purpose in life.

The show’s introduction conveniently overlooked that the 0/10 network broadcast the show for ten years before Nine took over… but David Campbell did at least acknowledge the show’s history at Channel 0

The constant advertising for Marriage At First Sight in each ad break is doing my head in though.

I think in previous years, they used to have supers for the singers, but I haven’t seen one at all tonight?

Bang on :boom:

+1, exactly what I’ve been getting turned-off by, it’s Christmas Eve for goodness sake.

I don’t have an issue with them promoting their shows in the ad breaks but just the repetitive nature of promoting this one show

Currently listening to 3AW’s Remember When with Simon Owens and Andrew McLaren, which has mixture of live performances and backstage interviews of performers by Sunday Herald Sun’s Fiona Byrne. Talking Lifestyle has the simulcast of Nine’s coverage.

Probably more people tuned into Vision Australia Radio than Talking Lifestyle’s simulcast

Who were the three female singers about an hour ago, 9:45 - 9:50pm?

One first on stage for Silent Night, joined by two other females for the final verses?

Were they not Australian? They sung with a US accent.

Different in Perth promoting Vision radio simulcast.

The Brisbane tuning advice is amusing given the broadcast on 882am was the network feed - an hour ahead of the delayed broadcast.
