Carols By Candlelight

I watch Carols for carols sung as they should be. Only 2 or 3 weren’t butchered.

It’s not the old faces that are the problem. It’s some of the attempts to overdo it all.

Get your point but I should mention too, Clint’s hosted the Today Show the last couple of days. So maybe a handful of people in the other states will remember him.

He’s awful as Today host so why would you think he’d be any good on Carols?

worst-episode-ever

I think you need to get a grip mate.

It was a really bad Carols. By comparison to years past.

No need to attack or make a big deal. It’s just our opinions as (loyal) Carols viewers.

They were marginally better than the Brisbane Lord Mayors carols from last week… and they were terrible.

I thought that it was quite good. I didn’t detect any real difference to past years. It certainly has that element of predictability to it (evident through some of the fun Twitter commentary tonight), but I also get the sense that people enjoy some of the familiar aspects of it. For instance, David Hobson’s yearly performance of The Holy City seems to be unanimously enjoyed (including by me).

To me, it seems like a more ‘warm’ event than Carols in the Domain, which I do find quite difficult to watch. The long time performers tend to do a good job, so I wouldn’t really think about ditching them, but I do understand the calls to modernise the event. It doesn’t really seem stale to me though.

I love the tradition of Carols By Candlelight, and the regulars who come on each year, but they keep trying to turn it into some sort of rock concert with a few carols thrown in rather than being an actual carols show. And Anthony Callea dressed as a tin foil Liberace was just a joke. I liked Gorgi Coghlan and Dami Im, though.

Has also hosted countless sports for Nine nationally including cricket, netball, tennis

They did modernise it by giving Uncle Doug a chance to sing. This is what the carols should be about! None of this fly in fly out crap from Sydney!!

The carols should showcase Melbourne to the country and this includes hosts as well…

You have an obsession about making everything about Melbourne but the rest of the country doesn’t want that.

Sorry, but completely disagree. Great production.

I’m still peeved from when they flew Ray Martin down to usurp Brian Naylor. But I guess that’s national television networks for you, look forward to watching Sydney’s New Year’s Eve with 2/3 hosts working and living in Melbourne.

That’s not ‘modernising’ the event - it was simply giving Uncle Doug an opportunity to perform for once as a way of thanking him for the decades he’s been involved with Carols

Production of the event was fine. The content and performances were terrible. Watch it back again today.

The ratings will be huge because it’s a Christmas Eve tradition and lots of families watch together.
But I think many will be very disappointed with why they saw.

That said, Merry Christmas everyone!!!
