Mix106.3 is unstoppable. Probably more successful than Triple M Newcastle. A good move to more music at Drive, with Larry having the 2nd biggest increase outside of Mix106.3 Breakfast.

Well done to Mix Canberra.

A mixed bag for the ABCs:
Second-best showing ever for Newsradio, topped only by a 6.3 in 1987.
(Correction - best-ever for NewsRadio, second-best on the 103.9 frequency.)
However, Classic slumps to its lowest share since 2006, and 2RN its lowest since 2001.

The high rating could be due to the station’s broadcast of Federal Parliament. However, NewsRadio did not exist back in 1987.

Correct, I should have stated largest on the frequency, so it is an all-time high for NewsRadio.

who was on that frequency in 1987?

Referring to 2SSS (aka 1SSS)?

that was a community station? surprised they were getting measured

Perhaps it is referring to NewsRadio being 2PB back then?

Yes, it was 2SSS. Not sure if it appeared in the actual survey reports, but it was reported by The Canberra Times:

2CC on a 41 share is clearly never to be repeated. Mind you, neither is 2CA on 19.2…

No doubt they were grumbling at the time of how they’d had a 52 share just a few years before

I often wonder how 2CC ended up the talk station and 2CA the classic hits station. Surely 2CC was the more successful of the two as a music station.

ARN sold 2CC to Capital Radio Network in December 1994, whilst Austereo kept owning 2CA until July 1997, in which it too was sold to Capital Radio Network.

After Capital acquired 2CC, the station was repositioned as an easy listening station, and also introduced some talkback programming, including John Laws. In 1999, it became a full-time talk station.

Didn’t realise 2CC was a music station as late as 1999.

They are an oddity really; 2GB lite in the most politically progressive place in the country.

Canberra would surely be another market where you’d look to convert the incumbents across to FM at some stage. Unless spectrum availability wouldn’t permit? I know those Tuggeranong repeaters cause a few problems in that department.

Canberra is one of the competitive markets listed where its commercial AM stations have submitted request for LAP Variation in converting to FM.

Tuggeranong has dab+ simulcasts so perfect opportunity to clear these fm frequencies. This would allow an easy fm conversion for 2CA and 2CC. If they were to convert to fm one of them would change formats to something similar to Star 104.5 to be competitive with Hit and Mix.

An fm conversion would give Canberra the market shake up that is long overdue.

Regarding 1SSS, it was a sports and racing community station on 103.9 MHz that operated from circa 1986-2003. I think it went belly up after it lost the racing rights in Canberra (to ACTTAB, 88.7). I think the NSW TAB was also on 97.5 (Queanbeyan) at one point.

A brief aircheck of 1SSS:
