Which is also available on 1008AM (the former 2XX frequency before it moved to FM in 1999).
Yes- wasnât sure if 1008 was taking the NSW feed (I donât listen for obvious reasons). At night here 1008 is unlistenable and you can hear 4IP in the background.
The most likely thing that will happen is a conversion to 103.1; youâd have to move the 2WZD translator at Tumut for that (you canât hear Tumut in Canberra, but the Canberra high powered stations get over to Tumut and Batlow surprisingly well). I think you could get away with the 200 kHz separation for Goulburn (103.3).
The other possible frequency is 107.9. Youâd have to move Yass 107.9; since itâs only a TAB station I reckon they could get away with an LPON. 107.9 is allocated to Tuggers but has never been activated- I think for 1CMS. The other unused Tuggers allocation is 95.1, but I think 2BS would be a problem there in tropo. Bathurst and Orange get into Canberra surprisingly well when conditions are right.
GN FM doesnât really get into Canberra that well either. The possible problem area would be around my neck of the woods, where both 107.7 and 107.9 would come in well. Nothing that a decent radio couldnât handle however and analogous to the current situation in Yass.
I donât think you could ever make left leaning talkback a commercially viable thing, so targeting conservatives would at least be a solid business model to build around. High floor, low ceiling in the ratings.
Kinda think they should go to music if they get an FM conversion - chuck Sky News or a straight up 2GB feed on DAB or something for those listeners - I canât imagine many people listen to it for local talkback over the networked stuff - kinda like why Sydney news rates well on TV despite how the market should be able to support local bulletins.
Agree; progressives will always find their natural home at their Aunties. The US has tried commercial left leaning (progressive) talk but it has largely failed; most Democrats listen to NPR.
