I guess what I meant is previously they used the Triple M logo but didn’t last long but the songs they were playing wasn’t much different to what I remember when I was in Canberra about a year or so ago. Which is very different to Sydney Triple M. Yes they still broadcast Canberra Raiders games.
When did Mix106.3 use the Triple M logo?
You’re correct on both counts, probably closer to a Triple M regional format than a metro one.
I don’t think they’ve ever used a Triple M style logo.
I remember seeing it but it was several years ago but maybe I’ve been mistaken.
Mix also had a brief flirtation with taking some of the Triple M NRL coverage (I think this was back in the Monday Night Football days, although I’m not certain) but it didn’t last long.
Triple MMMmix ?

It was around 2016 when Fm104.7 started to slip in the ratings. At the end of 2015 the joint venture ended the #1 Scotty and Nige Breakfast show. Scottie was made redundant and Nige went to Mix 106.3.
In 2016 Fm104.7 was relaunched as Hit 104.7 with the station’s music format changing to match the other Hit network stations. They also started taking the Hit networked shows.
In the mid 00’s Fm104.7’s format started to change, going from the original active Rock format to a more contemporary Hot AC playlist with a rock skew. When the station rebranded to Hit 104.7 in January 2016 that is when they took the existing format with a few minor tweaks here and there.
What hasn’t helped Hit 104.7 is the inconsistency in their Breakfast lineup. Mix 106.3’s format being the closest to the original Fm104.7, and Canberra having more of a rock skew.
Mix106.3 has Nige who is the king in Canberra. Hit 104.7 has had a couple of #1 surveys since but the gap between Mix106.3 and Hit 104.7 is getting bigger and bigger. I wonder if Hit104.7 was to rebrand as KIIS104.7 and take the KIIS network programming would that improve their ratings?
So K&JO and ruin it further?
Best or Worst Bits of KJO use to air on Hit104.7 when they were at SCA, just a thought.
Canberra’s Christian community station 1WAY FM has changed news affiliation from Vision Christian Radio’s Vision National News to AIR News.
Not sure when the change happened but I think it was in the last few months as the last time I happened to tune in to 1WAY FM around the top of the hour they were still running Vision National News. That would have been a few months ago, maybe back around the start of the year even. I happened to be retuning a radio after a power outage at home the other day and drifted past 1WAY FM at the top of the hour, and recognised the newsreader’s voice as being from AIR News.
1WAY FM becomes Canberra’s 2nd AIR News affiliate. Artsound FM has been an AIR News affiliate for well over a decade although from what I’ve heard they don’t run it all day, possibly only at breakfast. 1WAY FM appears to be running AIR News each hour through daylight hours at least, just as they used to do with Vision.
Back in 2009, 1WAY FM briefly trialled AIR News but the audience feedback wasn’t great. There wasn’t really any complaint about the quality of AIR News itself, but rather complaints about the loss of the Christian news item (often a two line story about persecution in one part of the world or another) which Vision News contains. I wonder what prompted the change this time? In 2009 I seem to recall one of the reasons for testing a different news service was survey feedback which indicated that a decent portion of the audience would switch to the ABC for news and might not always switch back straight away afterwards, and improving the news service was an attempt to stop this audience drift.
To my ear, AIR News is a more listenable and well-rounded news service, so I welcome the change. Just surprised given what happened last time.
I’ve heard that Vision charges quite a lot of money for its news service, but i might be wrong.
Air News would be much cheaper i assume considering it’s backed by the Community Radio governing body.
But also i’ve noticed 89.9 TheLight has stopped taking Vision News (or any news besides the 6pm 9News) since they launched on DAB+. I’m not sure if Vision is on DAB in Canberra but that could be another reason.
They’re not. They have no broadcast presence in Canberra. Their closest site is Cooma. There is FaithFM on 87.6 in Canberra but I don’t think they run any news at all.
Mix 106.3 is essentially a Jack FM format and has been for quite some time. And yeah, no Vision outlets in Canberra which is a small relief.
‘Nige’ on DAB is a decent Jack Rock format, essentially copying Brian FM in NZ.
Skyfire will return in 2026, to be hosted by Hit 104.7 and Mix 106.3.
An efficient spectrum restack for Canberra and adjacent markets can easily accommodate FM allocation for all ABC and commercial stations. Even with the Tuggeranong spectrum hogging translators. The entire region can be interleaved on 0.4MHz between each.
Even better switch off the Tuggeranong translators promote DAB+ DAB+ will provide good coverage in the few shaded spots where Black Mt Fm is very poor.
With these frequencies cleared there will be spectrum for 2CA / 2CC to convert to fm as well as ABC Canberra and Radio National.
A lot of older cars don’t have DAB, or have native streaming capabilities… FM (and AM) is still king here, everyone knows what is is and can access it more easily in cars in particular.
If the ACT Labor Government get their way all cars in the ACT will be electric and probably won’t have AM radios, it will only be fm and DAB+
That will probably happen anyway in the next 20 to 30 years nation wide
