Apparently Forever Classic 70’s has appeared on DAB?
Even earlier than that. I remember Larry hosting 2CA Drive as far back as least 2000.
This is his replacement.
Mix 106.3 rebrands for 24-Hour Radiothon raising funds for sick kids
Today (Friday 20th June) Mix 106.3 Canberra has rebranded to KIDS 106.3 for a 24-Hour Radiothon for Give Me 5 (GM5) raising funds for sick kids in hospital. Donations are already beyond $25K.
A good play on the former moniker, Kix 106.3.
Did they change their RDS for it?
Though in the KIX era, I don’t think they ever used the “.3”…just KIX106 FM or 106 KIX FM to my knowledge…
Edit: The tropo was good enough tonight for me to answer my own question!!! (the answer being NO to the above).
Oh wow, I notice Mix106.3 now uses Gold’s “Just Great Music” positioner too.
That’s two KIIS stations now using the Gold positioning. Interesting.
Mix isn’t really a KIIS station music wise, the music format is more Gold leaning.
Hit is the CHR station in Canberra. ARN and SCA own both stations 50/50 and program them separately, but definitely appears to be some agreement there to not compete directly.
I think so too - based on recordings Kix 1-O-6
Looks like some RDS changes for them since Dec 2024.
PTY from Other Music to Rock, RT change as mentioned.
Maybe RDS Clock Time re-established (if accurate?)
Nice RDS log.
The CT was accurate, the metadata on my pic shows it was exactly 7.18pm when i took it!
I think the RT may have only been because they were doing the Raiders v Tigers NRL match preview leading up to the 8pm kickoff.
A subtle change - Gold (and 96FM) are ‘Just Great Songs’…
ARN don’t programme either station in the CBR JV. ARN covers sales and admin, while SCA covers content and programming. Promotions and marketing can come from either side, but usually only when something has been sold across a network. Same for when Mix has taken any ARN programming - it’s because their HO has sold it as a network wide sponsorship.
Rod & Gabi are presenting live from Harvey Norman Fyshwick on Hit 104.7 today, but at roughly 10:03 only the music bed (no talking) was heard during what could’ve been their first segment. It’s no wonder why most of their audience has switched to Mix 106.3…
FM104. 7 has probably rated number one in Canberra for a longer period then mix106.3 as Fm104. 7 was pretty much number one all throughout the nighties and into the 00’s mix106.3 was always number 2 or below. As the station is a joint venture between Austereo and the Australian Radio Network which specific station between FM104. 7 and Mix106. 3 is number one they probably didn’t care long as one of the two is number one.
When did 104.7FM start to slip in the ratings, making way for 106.3FM? Was it when SCA added all the networked programming at Drive and Nights? Or networking the playlist?
I would say so I noticed a lack of local presentation on weekends and since they started the Amplify CBR rubbish probably didn’t help. Most people knew that the two stations were connected and nothing has really changed its been a joint venture since the FM licenses were issued to 2CC and 2CA in the early 90s. I grew up listening to Mix 106.3 mainly and it had good local programming and the stations were quality. It seems they were run quite independently back then. They had their own local Love Songs and Dedications program in the 90s much like Richard Mercer on Mix 106.5 in Sydney. But it seems to have changed a lot over the last 5 to 10 years. Mix106 was talking more of a Triple M format at one stage. Which didn’t last thankfully. I don’t think much will change unless ACMA allows another station into the market which is unlikely or if 2CC and 2CA become more competitive which is also unlikely. Or if one probably 2CA converts to FM which is unlikely due to the spectrum limitations.
I thought Mix Canberra was still very much a Triple M format.
Has it changed? Aren’t they still calling local Canberra NRL matches?
