After surveying Aussies from different states and territories, Arnott’s has revealed that 80% of people call the scalloped edged icon a ‘Jatz’. However, when looking at the state versus state statistics, Victorians seem to think otherwise, with 70% of the surveyed population calling the cracker a Savoy. Those in Tassie are also on the Savoy train with 74% of their surveyed population siding with the Victorians.
Is there a difference between Savoy and Jatz?
Well, most Aussies don’t know this, but the recipes are actually slightly different. Savoy is made with golden syrup instead of malt, but most people couldn’t tell the difference.
I’m originally from SA but now live in Vic, and in my hometown the supermarkets had both Jatz and Savoy stocked on the shelf. It’s a hangover from when Arnotts took over smaller biscuit companies. That’s why Ginger Nuts are different in each state, and some types like YoYo are only (mainly) available in their home state.
And yes, I can taste the difference - Jatz has a slightly more salty and buttery taste than Savoy.
Couldn’t see a topic for a discussion about beverages, but been drinking James Boag St Georges Lager beer whilst here in Tasmania, and it’s really quite nice!
I knew about James Boag, but had not heard of their St Georges line before.
When in VIC, I was drinking Carlton Dry, that’s a nice drop too.
