I was thinking this yesterday when the video said 20 years ago …omg I was 12?
BB seems now a dated format. Is it still popular in the US ? I assume the majority of the population only really know the traditional format.
At the time it seemed great but now we have so many reality shows filmed like I’m a Celeb,Survivor, MAFS etc. Being filmed 24/7 is nothing new it seems. People have smart phones, people can show their whole life on instagram to strangers now it seems.
I have a feeling this will not do well neither will Farmer Wants a Wife, what are they going to show , dry barren landscapes and men in total despair with their land being sold or cattle sold? (assuming the drought still is going when they start filming?) Or maybe they will only film in green non drought parts of Australia and exclude NSW and Qld.
Trust 7 to take a format and completely screw it up killing all hype in the process. Imagine paying millions for the rights only to completely change the show from what people are used to. With no viewer interaction, it’s just not Big Brother. Even the US version has 24/7 live feeds and an audience.
I do think that it’s semi-understandable as to why they are not doing it live - the past few American seasons had publicly issues with things that happened on the Live Feeds
(Still they could have done a live production without feeds).
But that’s what makes Big Brother great. If they are afraid of controversy they should not have picked it up. No one is interested in watching an overly sanitised and and controlled version of Big Brother. The only Big Brother to be completely pre recorded got cancelled after one season.
I will post this for anyone who wants to get equated with the American Big Brother - it is a playlist of Big Brother America 6 (one of the more highly regarded seasons of the show).
Also, this website has the full-seasons of Big Brother Canada (I’d give season 2 and season 5 (a Fans/Favourites season )the recommendation here. Season 4 was also pretty good and that was Tim Dormer’s season (they did a twist where 2 International Housemates were voted into the Canadian House))
I watched the 2012 one, with the scruffy guy who turned out to be rich and went onto be a radio and social media star. It rated 800k or 900k from memory. Can’t remember whether it was great or just so so, but definitely watchable.
Must’ve been the next season or two that don’t get any love from public/media?
10’s early-mid 2000s ones were by far the best, not just casting and direction, but Gretel really made it her own!
I don’t agree with that. Channel 9s second season was the best of the 3 they did IMO. It had Tim and Tahn who were both great entertaining housemates. Both of them made it to the end as well. But the third season ruined everything. The editing was so contrived and the casting wasn’t as great so Big Brother pretty much lost it’s soul.
God the whole feel of the show… all the contestants and their homes feel plucked straight out of Arrested Development. The music is shocking. The effects are very budget, even for the 2000s.
The American show definitely had low production values - if you want to see how this show can be produced, watch the Canadian show (especially from Season 4 onwards).
Some of the sets they have for challenges are crazy.
I didn’t watch a lot of season 3 on 9. But I remember some of the contestants and thought it was cast ok. There were some interesting characters. I think the biggest issue was the repetition and the 8:30 timeslot.
They had the obvious ones who wanted insta followers in Skye. But she was still interesting.
But they also had the guy with the voice and Priya who were quite interesting and diverse.
That season also had a lot of drama with the guy in a relatioship getting with one of the contestants.
I remember one when Ben won and that clip of him saying “he would destroy someone” , then I looked him up online and said his job title was manager of some company.
Skye was annoying but yes she was quite entertaining. I did like Priya and Travis but barely remember the rest other than those 3. Ryan who won was such a boring housemate.
