Ten really isn’t the right network for it anymore. Between The Masked Singer, Amazing Race, Masterchef, Grant Denyer game-shows etc it doesn’t feel like they’re going to take on a risky, non-family friendly show like Big Brother. The closest they get to that now is The Bachelors and they haven’t really experimented with more risky 10play-exclusive shows like Seven and Nine have.
MAFS on Nine pretty clearly falls out of the family-friendly category and they could probably do a better job if they had the space.
Slightly off-topic but have been watching Big Brother UK and it’s the classic formula. Would recommend if it ever comes to a local catch-up service. The cast is filled with different personality types and even though it’s more of a slow-burn compared to a mega-produced MAFS-type show, the same investment in characters and storylines is there. It doesn’t feel as manufactured as the Seven series.

The seasons on Ch 9 didn’t have that dramatic music added on during it from memory. The music they add in the background .
My guess would be Ch10 pick it up.
Of the 3 main networks, it is the one that still feels the most youthful & fun … maybe it has a bit of an older vibe than it was in the mid-2000s (with Peek BB & Peek Aus Idol), but it’s not totally over the hill (compared to 9 & 7) - having BB (with enough family-friendly fun for the daily episodes and some cheekiness for feeds, and a later airing Uncut shows) would not feel out of place on 10.
Plus, it is a corporate sibling of CBS in the US, which airs American BB, with Paramount Plus being the home of the BBUS live feeds. I could see them taking inspiration from that schedule, in having a similar set-up here (Ch10 & 10Play for produced episodes, P+ for live feeds to boost subscribers to P+)

How long does 7 have the rights to Big Brother for , 3 years or 5 years?
Does the show really need to be rebooted AGAIN? I feel like after Seven’s efforts the Big Brother name/brand doesn’t have much of a future in Australia. It would be flogging a dead horse.
I know people want to relive the glory days of the live format but that’s nostalgia speaking - would that really translate to ratings today? I just feel the Big Brother name doesn’t have the same pull anymore and it wouldn’t be the same. I know the live version is doing well in the UK but Big Brother has been a TV staple there for over 20 years, so that’s a big difference. It would also be a huge risk for a network to invest in a live reboot of a show that’s had 3 separate runs here.

I think the show needs to be rested before any reboot occurs. I cant see it coming back to Australian screen until maybe 2026/7.

Unmissable Big Brother.
Some interesting rankings for Big Brother - especially for Brisbane where the show used to be massive thanks to the Gold Coast home.

While it is rating horribly in most markets, it is interesting seeing Brisbane viewers being (and it may be a slight stretch to use this term) competitive.
56,000 isn’t too far off Brisbane’s numbers for TARAus (70,000) or My Mum & Your Dad (79,000)
Those numbers are the rankings - it is worst in Brisbane in 57th place.

Not in 2024, 2025 is the new deal. 15 rounds of Thursday Night but in those rounds no 7 produced Saturday night games (R8-15 has local Saturday games)
Well I hope Seven got the rights for Big Brother at bargain basement price because that’s what it’s worth at the moment.
I know that AGT would be talent show overkill in terms of genre but if that was on air it would rate double Big Brother against the competition and would help Seven against lesser competition.
Big Brother, it’s time to go…
7 are the ones that drove BB down to the cheap show it is now, don’t see why they should be rewarded with actually paying less for the show.
I hope its costing them a lot of money instead and teaches them to not mess so much with a proven format.
