Between Two Worlds

To be fair, the scripts are probably years old by this point. Wasn’t the show originally announced in 2018?

It’s a soap, so end of season cliffhangers should be expected. If it was planned as a miniseries then they could have wrapped up all the storylines with a bow so the end. The intention always was for the storylines and secrets to play out over a few seasons.

I haven’t seen the final episodes yet but I enjoy this show and hope it’s picked up by someone. maybe Netflix, who are apparentely looking for new projects. Don’t think Foxtel would spend the money to take on this one like they did with A Place to Call Home.

On that note, I think I will skip the last 4 episodes then.

You still have some good twists before it ends. The audience learns all the secrets but you obviously don’t see the fallout of what happens when they’re revealed to the rest.

I think a big problem with this show is that most of the characters are despicable and not many get their comeuppance, so it’s hard to warm to many or any of them.

Awesome.

I just watched episode 7. It was like watching paint dry. But I’m committed in getting through to the end somehow.

Has it been officially confirmed that the show is cancelled? I know that the low numbers the show has been pulling indicates it’ll get the chop, but has this been confirmed?

It hasn’t been but considering they shifted to double episodes starting after 9.30pm, it’s safe to say that Seven won’t renew it. It could only be saved if Netflix buys it and it finds success there.

I always thought when I wrote a show I would have a cliffhanger but film a small thing on what happened and try and tie it up nicely in case it didn’t get renewed. maybe add it as an extra to the DVD or wherever someone buys it to encourage the sale. I don’t know why more shows don’t do that? There’s a been a few…

They did that with A Place To Call Home. They filmed a second ending for season 2 which Seven screened. But when it went to a third season on Foxtel, they ignored that neat ending and chose to screen the original cliffhanger as the recap.

After hearing it has cliffhangers to finish the series I am more inclined not to finish. I have watched 3 episodes now and I am really not a fan. Its so slow.

I think the problem is that people expect all shows to be fast paced and eventful these days. This show probably has the same pace as shows from 20 years ago where the story is paced out over the whole season. But these days people want everything to happen quick and fast. The problem with that is, shows burn out faster when they do that.

I remember watching Glee and so much happened in one season that by the time they got to the end of the second season they had run out if ideas and started repeating themselves.

Empire was the same. They pushed the envelope with so many of their storylines in season one so there were no surprises left for season two and it just went in circles.

There also wasn’t as much competition 20 years ago so you could afford to be slow paced. These days I know for me personally if a show hasn’t gripped me within 2-3 episodes I drop it.

This is why I prefer Netflix/cable shows, they are much more interesting and varied in terms of genre. There is something there for everyone whereas on Free To Air TV they tend to play it much more safe.

But you also have very splintered audience on streaming services. Most shows would never have the same audiences as FTA.

Between Two Worlds may have been “slow paced”, but viewers didn’t warm to it and its 10 episodes.

Mystery Road series may have been slow paced too, but was at 6 episodes per season and a hit.

I think that sadly, most dramas on FTA are to be fast paced and a max of 8 episodes per season. Underbelly initially had 13 eps per season, and only 8 in later seasons. Five bedrooms at 6 (or 8) eps? Long gone are the weekly long term dramas of Rafters, Winners & Losers etc.

No I don’t think I have that expectation. And I gave it a shot. I just didn’t find it had much to keep me watching. I probably would have finished it if I had not read the comments above regarding its ending.

It doesn’t really matter that it ends with cliffhangers. As I said before, the secrets are revealed to the audience by the last episode. It’s just that revelations to other characters aren’t done by the end of the season.

The shooting and production standards are high, but It’s not just because it’s slow, but the plot, script and acting is also underwhelming. There was a few signs of life within episode 4, but it’s returning to its slow pace again.

So it’s not exactly cliffhangers?

It’s hard for me to go into details without spoiling the whole thing.
