A few years ago, Sue sadly lost her husband, Bernie, the family member Daisy was closest to. ADAM + CHARLIE – MAKING LIFE EASIER
Whether it’s because of age or injury, losing mobility can really impact on your everyday life. Adam and Charlie are teaming up to share some simple ways to make life a little bit easier if mobility is an issue. They’re helping Peter, an 85-year-old who lives with and cares for his disabled son, Rob. Peter’s knees aren’t what they used to be, which makes simple things – like moving around his house - really difficult. So Adam and Charlie are installing an assistance rail and ramp to help out. And because Peter is passionate about gardening, they’ll also be installing some raised garden beds so he can spend more time doing what he loves.
CHARLIE – MAKE YOUR GARDEN PERENNIAL (RED COW FARM)
Perennial-focused cottage gardens are currently having a moment in the gardening world. And although this romantic style of garden may look like it’s just sprung up naturally, they actually require lots of prep and planning to get right. Dogs love a good sniff…but did you know that a typical dog’s nose can be thousands of times more sensitive than a human nose? In fact, some dogs have such a good sense of smell, they can use it to help them find virtually anything. This week, Dr Harry’s meeting 8- year-old Ketsia, who loves to sniff out and find golf balls and it’s a great way to keep her physically and mentally challenged. In fact, tracking smells is so good for dogs, there’s a dog sport based all around it, called scent work. Dr Harry’s meeting up with some scent work trainers to find out more.

Recently, longtime Better Homes and Gardens viewer, Mitchell, wrote in to invite Graham to check out his small backyard…and boy, is Graham glad he did! Mitchell is a self-taught gardener, and he’s managed to pack 40 roses, 17 fruit trees, 8 blossom trees and a greenhouse into his tiny but immaculate garden. It may be small, but this garden is overflowing with clever ideas.

DR HARRY – HILLS WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
For animal advocate Ben Dessen, helping to rescue and rehabilitate injured and surrendered Aussie native animals is way more than a job…it’s his life’s work. Over the past decade Ben, alongside his family and a dedicated team of volunteers, has been working tirelessly to establish a wildlife sanctuary in northern Sydney. Called the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, it’s still very much a work in progress, but Ben and the team have already constructed a new wombat rehab enclosure, aviaries for birds and habitats for reptiles. They’ve also created a facility for a very friendly emu named Moo! Dr Harry’s taking a tour and finding out more about Ben’s ultimate dream: to build a wildlife hospital.

On top of his regular training, he’s been socialised to the sights, smells and sounds of the school, and also visits kids in classrooms, the sick bay and even helps the teachers in the staff room. If you could choose the size of your home, bigger is always better…right? It seems most Aussies agree, because as a country we have the largest average house size in the world. But while Aussie homes keep getting bigger - and bills keep getting bigger to match - the number of people living in each home has gone down. Is this really the best way of living?
Homeowners Bryan and Marija aren’t so sure. Last year, they chose to subdivide their plot, knock down their old garage and build a house to retire into. Not only is their home beautifully designed, Bryan and Marija see it as a great way to ‘age in place’: they still get to enjoy their old neighbourhood, but in a smaller house with fewer bills. CATCHING UP WITH NAGI FROM RECIPETIN EATS
As a New York Times bestselling author, the face behind the hugely successful blog, RecipeTin Eats, and the owner of the not-for-profit, RecipeTin Meals, Nagi Maehashi has a lot on her plate…but she’s just added more: Nagi’s renovating her new home! When Scott and Danielle’s kids left home, they did the opposite of what most empty nesters do…they upsized. The couple bought their own acreage just north of Sydney so that Danielle could spend more time doing what she loves most: spending time with horses. She owns and rides two of her own horses, plus the farm is home to a quirky crew of animal friends including Nougat the alpaca, a Rhodesian ridgeback and a farm cat. The latest addition to the family is Denis the donkey and, although he’s settled in well, he’s also had some unwanted attention…from flies! These pests have been biting Denis’s legs incessantly, causing nasty sores. It’s a tough problem to tackle, but Dr Harry might have the answer…and it’s his most creative solution ever!

When you’re looking for a new place to live, it’s always good to get a second opinion. So, this week, Johanna’s asked Dr Chris Brown to help her as she takes a look at Shell Cove, in the Shellharbour area of New South Wales. If you’re considering a sea change, you couldn’t ask for much more than this new suburb. It’s close to the beach, with a busy waterfront precinct full of hotels, restaurants, cafes and even a marina. Plus, there are parks, lagoons and more nearby. But just how much does it cost to live here? And who should consider it as a place to call home? Johanna and Dr Chris are finding out.
DR HARRY – KEVIN THE TROUBLESOME BURMESE
Living with your in-laws while house hunting is challenging enough…but throw some kids and pets into the mix and it can add a whole other layer of tension! That’s what happened when Lisa, Kane, their two kids and two Burmese cats, Kevin and Ruby, all moved in with Kane’s parent’s, Phil and Kim. Phil and Kim have a 12-year-old Burmese cat called Poppy and Kevin and Poppy just don’t get along. They keep fighting, hissing and growling at one another and the situation has gotten so bad, Poppy has become a bit of a recluse. Can Dr Harry restore peace in this once harmonious home?

Sam is a horticultural agronomist-turned- landscape designer, and over the past 13 years she’s transformed the 2.5-hectare garden into a plant lover’s paradise. About five years ago, Ralph created a stunning garden on his 2.5-hectare plot near Barwite, in north-east Victoria. Named the Barwitian Gardens, they’re a masterclass in how to use perennials. Ralph ‘paints’ the landscape with them, combining colours, textures and forms to create this truly one-of-a- kind space. Graham’s meeting up with Ralph to find out more.

Sharna has appeared as a troupe member on the American version of Dancing with the Stars for years and, since 2019, she’s been a judge on the Australian version of the show. Off-screen, Sharna’s engaged to 90210-alum, Brian Austin Green, and they share a young son, Zane. Johanna’s meeting up with Sharna and Brian to find out all the behind-the- scenes goss – both on and off the show.
DR HARRY – SCONE HORSE FESTIVAL
Nestled away in the Upper Hunter, you’ll find Scone – a country town that’s known as the Horse Capital of Australia. During the annual Scone Horse Festival, the town pays homage to the breeds that have helped to build this country, and the town truly comes alive. There’s a street parade, horse shows, farrier demonstrations, fireworks and the two-day Scone Cup Race Carnival. This year, the festival celebrates its 45th anniversary and Dr Harry’s in town to celebrate and to meet some of the amazing horses taking part.

Started over 20 years ago by Annemaree and Nick Smith, Panorama Wildlife Sanctuary and Secret Gardens is now a 55-acre paradise, with over 25 themed gardens, 20,000 plants and alpacas, peacocks and emus to boot. There’s even a four-acre crater garden, created using 3000 tonnes of rock! It’s a garden unlike any Melissa has seen before and she’s taking us along for a tour.
JULIET – DOORWAY PUPPET THEATRE
Roll up, roll up, for the greatest show in town! Juliet’s showing you how to make a circus- inspired puppet theatre that will inspire hours of fun. Made with some fabric and a tension rod, it’s designed to hang in the doorway – meaning it can be packed away for easy storage. Best of all, there’s no sewing involved, and it will inspire your kids to dance, sing and play for hours. Let the show begin!

JOHANNA – AMAZING HOME: THE IMPOSSIBLE HOUSE
Have you ever considered living off grid? It’s only for people living in remote areas, with no easy connection to power, water and waste services…right? This week, Johanna’s meeting an inner-city dweller turning the whole idea of ‘off-grid’ on its head. Dr Laura Ryan lives in a small Sydney terrace which she’s managed to make almost entirely self-sufficient. There are solar panels, five large water tanks under the rear extension and even an incinerating toilet! Laura’s home is beautiful, too; she’s used second-hand and sustainable materials to create a space that’s full of colour and personality. But the journey to self-sufficiency hasn’t been an easy one and Johanna’s meeting up with Laura to find out more.
ADAM + JULIET – LAUNDRY LOGIC FOR ALL
With three girls and two dogs to contend with, parents Dan and Tess seem to always have a load of laundry on. Many of us can relate and, while Adam and Juliet can’t make the laundry magically disappear, they can make doing it a little more enjoyable. They’re transforming Dan and Tess’s outdated laundry into a stylish and functional room with loads of space- saving ideas built in. Not only does the finished result look amazing, it’s got loads of ideas you can incorporate in your laundry, too.

If you thought your pet pooch was demanding, just wait till you meet Coco! Coco the pug has one strict rule for going outside: her dog door flap must be fully open, no exceptions! She flatly refuses to push the flap open herself, so the family has to get up every time she needs to go out. And with winter here, keeping the flap open 24/7 just isn’t an option. Can Dr Harry figure out why Coco is being so particular?
