DR HARRY – SYDNEY SEAHORSE PROJECT
The views of Sydney Harbour are spectacular, but dive beneath the water and you’ll find a world teeming with marine life that’s just as breathtaking. Unfortunately, one of the harbour’s most unique residents is currently facing a major threat. The White’s Seahorse is only found on the east coast of Australia, but due to human activity and habitat loss, its numbers have dramatically declined in recent years. This week, Dr Harry’s meeting the research team bringing the White’s Seahorse back from the brink. They’re restoring seagrass meadows in Sydney Harbour, breeding seahorses in captivity and then releasing them in ‘seahorse hotels’ – artificial habitats designed to support their recovery. Dr Harry is finding out more about their amazing work.
DR HARRY – LIFE OFF THE TRACK
What happens to racehorses when they retire? Dr Harry’s visiting international thoroughbred stud, Godolphin Australia Aberdeen, to find out. Their Lifetime Care program is one of several retirement programs that help champion horses live fulfilling lives, even after their professional careers are over. These horses thrive as therapy animals and companions, and many of them are rehomed, too. Dr Harry is meeting some of these amazing horses to find out what life is like off the track.
ADAM – LOUNGE IN A CLASSIC
This week, Adam’s not just making a chair…he’s making a standout piece of modern art. The Red and Blue Chair was designed over 100 years ago by Gerrit Rietveld and became so iconic, it’s now found in museums across the world. Geometric, minimalist and understated, this chair really does make a statement…but the original version comes with a $120,000 price tag. So, Adam’s making his own spin on it, using off-the-shelf and affordable materials from the hardware store. Not only does the final result make a statement, but it’s also super comfy, too.
COLIN – FISH STEW
Colin’s making his version of a traditional French bouillabaisse, or seafood stew, and it’s delicious, easy to make and affordable. Colin’s using mussels and leatherjackets, but any fresh cut of fish will do. Served in a tasty broth made with fennel, ginger, white wine, tomatoes, orange, thyme and cream, this stew is bursting with flavour and guaranteed to warm you up on a cold day.
CLARISSA – STEAMED PORK BELLY RIBS WITH BLACK BEANS
Clarissa’s recreating a popular yum cha dish and her version tastes just as good as what you’d get in a Chinese restaurant. Made with fermented black beans, soy sauce, ginger, garlic and lots of chilli, these steamed pork belly ribs take only 15 minutes to prep, and they’re guaranteed to be a crowd favourite.

We drink it, bathe in it, clean with it and use it on our garden…water is a central part of every aspect of our lives, but have you ever stopped to think about how it gets to the tap? And how clean is it…really? Johanna’s on a journey to find out how water travels from the dam to a filtration plant and finally to our homes, plus how it’s tested and treated in the process. You might be surprised how little you know about the water we drink every day of our lives.
ADAM + JULIET – COSMETIC BATHROOM MAKEOVER: FUNCTION, FORM & FOCUS
Bathrooms are one of the costliest rooms in the house to renovate…especially if you’re replacing things like tiles or reconfiguring the space. So how do you give your bathroom a whole new look on a tiny budget? Adam and Juliet are teaming up to show you how. They’re giving a daggy 80s bathroom a cosmetic makeover, without a whole lot of demo. The finished result looks like a completely new, luxe space. There’s nothing tastier than slow-cooked beef…except the couscous it’s served with, if you ask Colin. He’s slow-cooking beef-cheeks in a flavoursome broth of red wine, star anise, thyme and veggies until it’s melt-in-your-mouth tender. The leftover broth is then used to cook the couscous - and it tastes so much better than traditional couscous. Served with mustard, parsley, mint and capers, this dish is easy, delicious and guaranteed to impress.
CHARLIE – BACKYARD BOTANIC GARDEN
One of Charlie’s most frequently shared tips as a landscape designer is to make sure you identify your environment, climate and soil before you choose plants or design. This week, he’s visiting a stunning garden which really shows us why this simple logic is such a gamechanger. Peter Nixon is a renowned landscape designer and plantsman and his ‘Seachanger’ garden is a true testament to gardening with your environment in mind. Located on NSW’s Central Coast, he’s created a cool-climate subtropical oasis which is truly flourishing and Charlie’s here to learn more.
MELISSA – A DAY AT TORELLO FARM (MORNINGTON PENINSULA)
The Mornington Peninsula is made up of an eclectic patchwork of small farms growing an astounding array of produce. Depending on the season you can find everything from apples to truffles, berries, goat’s cheese, olives and more, all locally grown. But what if you could find all these farm fresh goodies in the one spot? That’s the vision behind Torello Farm, which has been owned by the Brancatisano family since 2016. What was once 11 hectares of neglected and weed-infested land has been turned into the ultimate market garden. Melissa’s here to check it out and to sample some of the delicious produce on offer.

Johanna and Pete are visiting this gem on the lower north shore to find out why it’s so beloved by locals and how it’s changed over time. As Sydney’s population grows, apartment blocks are springing up everywhere in Crows Nest and it’s changing the demographic of the suburb, as well as the house prices. So should this suburb be on the list of places you’d love to live? And is it affordable? Johanna and Pete are finding out.

If you purchase an old property, you should expect to find a few surprises…and that includes in the backyard! When new homeowners, Jacqui and Brad, started investigating their backyard, they found some very old slabs of broken concrete. And although they’d love to get rid of it, they’re worried about the costs involved…and what might be hiding underneath. Adam and Charlie are here with a clever solution: they’re creating the perfect outdoor space on top and over the old concrete slabs…and the finished result is the perfect space for outdoor entertaining. With a deck, firepit area, gardens, paved dining area and a cooking corner, what once was a problem area has turned into a major opportunity.

Recently, Giotto’s career took a bit of a backstep when he swallowed a corn cob and ending up needing surgery. But he’s back and Dr Harry can’t wait to find out: what skating moves can you perform with not two, but four, legs?!

It’s the craze that’s taking over Australia and finding it’s way into everything from smoothies to lattes, ice cream and everything in between. CHARLIE – AZALEA VS SPIDER MITE
They’re only a few millimetres long, but spider mites can cause a world of damage to your plants. Charlie’s tackling two azaleas with different levels of spider mite damage, each requiring a different treatment. Along the way, he’s sharing his tips on how to spot a spider mite infestation on your plants and how to know when damage is beyond repair.
DR HARRY – IRIS LODGE ALPACAS
With over 120 alpacas and loads of llamas, you’d be forgiven for thinking Dr Harry’s travelled to the Andes, but he’s actually only an hour and half north of Sydney. From buying an old dairy farm so they could ride their horses, to now having over 300 animals including chickens, cows and sheep, Harry meets the couple whose tree-change has grown larger than they ever expected. But it’s the alpacas who are the stars of the show.

A well-designed garden will look good all year-round, and the Deepdene Forest Garden is testament to that. But it’s no surprise, given that it’s rumoured to have been designed in the 1860’s by none other than the creator of Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Garden, Robert Guilfoyle, himself. A recent restoration was a collaboration between landscape designer, Ian Barker and his team, the garden-loving homeowners and of course nature, to successfully combine the defined heritage-era style with modern landscape practices. This ensured the garden retained its charm, rich horticultural history and will continue to thrive for another hundred and fifty years.

Previously known as Bob’s Farm, new owners Dawn and Martin, took over the 50-acre property about five years ago and are continuing his legacy. Melissa’s meeting up with them to find out more about their passion for Aussie native flowers.

JOHANNA – THE SALVAGE YARD HOUSE
Building your own home isn’t the most eco-friendly undertaking, so it’s a great idea to reuse and repurpose where and when you can. This week, Johanna’s meeting a couple whose taken that logic to the extreme. Mat and Anna own a salvage yard in the Victorian country town of Castlemaine and they have built their own home on site entirely out of reclaimed materials, right down to the appliances. From a light fitting made from a canoe to an exterior made up of old street signs, Mat and Anna have used old objects in creative ways…and the finished result is a real stunner of a home. They’re taking Johanna on a tour of their digs and, along the way, they’re proving that the benefits of turning the old into something new are truly endless.
COLIN – PORK FILLET WITH JERUSALEM ARTICHOKE & PARMESAN PUREE
If you ask Colin, winter is the best season of the year. Why? Because of all the delicious produce of course! This week, he’s cooking up one of his favourite winter veggies: Jerusalem artichokes. Pureed with onion, garlic, thyme and parmesan, it’s the perfect accompaniment to a tender pork fillet. Served with a burnt butter, sage and hazelnut sauce, who needs spring and summer when you’ve got dishes like this?

Homeowners Tam and Dan finished renovating their dream home among the gum trees, in Sydney’s northern beaches, in 2021 and the finished result is everything they ever dreamed of. But the trees they love so much shed leaves everywhere…and Tam and Dan’s Aussie bulldog, Lou Lou, hates it when they try to clean those leaves up. Lou Lou attacks the leaf blower every time it’s turned on, turning simple garden maintenance into a total nightmare. Dr Harry’s here to help…but can he convince Lou Lou the leaf blower isn’t as bad as it seems?

ADAM – ADAM VISITS AMONG THE TREES
The timber industry can be a pretty wasteful one and this week, Adam’s visiting a gem of a business that’s doing their bit to help by making recycled timber available to the public. At Among the Trees, in Sydney’s inner west, everything from old fence posts and palings to church pews are given a new life. Rather than ending up in landfill, they’re sold to use as benchtops, tabletops, flooring and more. Originally developed in Europe as off-season training for sled dogs, the sport is now taking off in Australia. At the last stop on Sydney’s Metro line, you’ll find the new suburb of Tallawong. It’s so new that only a few years ago, there were farm paddocks where new apartments are now springing up. There’s way more planned for the future, so Tallawong could help provide part of the answer to Sydney’s housing crisis. But the question is…how do you build a whole new suburb? And more importantly, how do you do it well? Johanna and Dr Chris are in Tallawong to find some answers.

Dr Harry’s jumping into the snake pit! Well, kind of. He’s visiting the new Weigel Venom Centre, at the Australian Reptile Park on the Central Coast in New South Wales.
