It seems like so many shows these days going that way. The majority of The Voice season was pre-recorded tooand viewers had no input till the last couple of eps. The Masked Singer is as well (although good reason for that one) and that new Real Dirty Dancing on Seven looks pre-recorded. Its cutting costs but shows generate way more buzz if there is audience involvement.
There’s some backlash on social media today as that Indigenous guy Mitch seems to have been really popular with the audience but we never got the chance to vote for him. It also annoys me that AGT isn’t so much about undiscovered talent anymore. Clearly the lady who won is a professional who has the $$ to do what she does when her acts rely on those expensive graphics to dance along too.
It’s hard to see how this could return for 2020 given how lacklustre it’s been and the inevitable transformation of programming at the network with their new CEO, but what else do they have?
Too many times 7 commission shows for 1 season and drop them when they don’t perform quite as expected, not allowing things to be ironed out in subsequent seasons or as a base to build their programming on.
Many past acts have been from overseas on this show and other shows. We’ve actually had many Kiwi and Pacific Islanders as singers in our talent shows. If you’re willing to pay to get here and the accommodation, then why not?
Aussies have appeared in the American and British versions of this show too and other reality shows.
The battle to be crowned ultimate champion is here as the best of Aussie talent take on the world in an incredible, showstopping showdown.
AGT and AUSTRALIA’S GOT TALENT: THE CHAMPIONS will bring together the most talented, memorable, wackiest and all-round fan favourite acts from past seasons of some of the most popular acts from the Got Talent franchises around the world on the one stage. This super-charged celebration of creativity and talent will deliver the most spectacular competition ever seen in Australia.
AUSTRALIA’S GOT TALENT: THE CHAMPIONS is a Fremantle production for Channel Seven.
I doubt the first ever AGT champion Bonnie Anderson will be invited to compete on AGT: The Champions next year, as she is starring in Neighbours which is on 10Peach.
2011 AGT winner Jack Vidgen was also a contestant on The Voice this year. Illusionist Cosentino is a crowd pleaser and was one of the most popular non-winners in the show’s history.
My Kitchen Rules is already in the can and I imagine Plate of Origin is a short run show. AGT is hardly a demanding shoot - I’d back him and all the judges to return.
