Australia's Got Talent

I think so, yes.

Tried to watch this show but find it excruciatingly awful. How did 7 find such a terrible judging panel? Not a patch on the American or British versions.

The show will be on Sundays only from next week, with semi final 2 (semi final 1 is on tonight). That means the grand final should air on Sunday, September 22, as part of Seven’s AFL Grand Final week programming.

Seven’s focus isn’t demos though - it’s on total viewers. Now, we could debate until the cows come home whether that’s the right strategy or not. However, AGT is doing better than pretty much everything they’ve aired at 7:30pm not just this year but in Q3/Q4 over the past few years.

Two points:

  1. I think Seven have become ‘risk-adverse’ over the last few years - you only have to look at their programming lineup to see evidence of that. Believe part of that is due to the fact that because they’ve unsuccessfully tried to launch countless programs in Q3/Q4 over the past few years, they don’t know what to do with the 2nd half of the year. Once again, we could argue all day that they gambled on the wrong formats and/or executed them poorly (eg; doing a celebrity edition of Hell’s Kitchen). However, I think the fact that their lineup for the rest of the year is pretty bare is testiment that they’re ‘lost’ about what to do.
  2. Said it before, will say it again - people (collectively) keep calling for networks to put on ‘something new’. The problem is whenever they do that, viewers simply don’t respond (aside from very few expectations) - there’s the dilemma all networks are having to find some way to combat

I am pretty sure they have said before their focus is 25-54.

And networks haven’t tried something new. It’s just a copied reality show or a remake of an old format.

A similar press release today says:

Australia will decide the winner in a live vote via SMS, the 7plus app or 7plus.com.au – watch Sunday for voting details.

Since the grand final was filmed two months ago, how will the winner be announced? Did they film multiple endings?
And since it’s a “live” vote, WA viewers will not able to vote due to time difference, similar to what happened at The Voice grand final this year.

Are we sure that the finale definitely isn’t going to be live? Could it be possible that they filmed everything up until the finale and they have got everyone back for the final episode? Otherwise the only alternative is that they filmed multiple endings which would have been extremely hard to do - they would have needed at least 10 different endings but then if you add the second or third places etc into that I don’t see how that would have been possible or feasible.

Looks like there will be alternate endings depending on voting result, as noted by TV Tonight:

Viewers will decide the winner in a live vote via SMS, the 7plus app or 7plus.com.au with one of several alternate endings to screen according to results. WA & SA viewers will be able to vote early if they watch for social media alerts only.

It seeems so tacky doing it this way. They must just announce a winner… not a runner up etc. Unless they film everyone as a winner and runner up… but it will just feel so false and must be annoying for the contestants.

This seems to be the approach for most reality shows these days though. The Voice was mostly pre-recorded, AGT is now and of course the entire masked singer season is. I think not having real time shows and voting does kill a bit of the shows buzz. There’s just very little hype doing it this way. Finalists on AGT have literally just been picked because of one persons opinion. It’s pretty lame.

Late finish for the GF tonight - it was scheduled to end at 9pm but the EPG now says 9.19pm.

Ricki-Lee said near the start of the show that the judges would choose four acts for the public to vote. That means there would be four endings for the winner announcement.

That was so anti-climatic. You can tell when it’s a false pre-recorded ending. It just lacks excitement and emotion. Plus there were some bizarre choices in that F4. I’m not sure how that young girl dancer got through at the expense of that incredible Indigenous singing guy missing out. I think he would have won had the public voted.

Australia’s Got Talent 2019 Winner

Pole dancing mum wins Australia’s Got Talent 2019 title and $100,000 prize with stunning display of precision and timing.

Australia has tonight crowned pole dancing mum Kristy Sellars its new Got Talent champion.

The Melbourne mum-of-three won Australia’s vote with a stunning display of precision, timing, strength and emotion in a powerful pole routine to the song ‘Unsteady’ by X Ambassadors.

Lucy Durack : “That was the ultimate Grand Final performance. What impressed me the most was you told this most beautiful and important story and you made us feel.”

Nicole Scherzinger : “You make me so proud to be a woman, that was profound. You bring power and depth and meaning to pole dancing.”

Shane Jacobson : “Never stop what you’re doing. You do it with such power and yet you’re happy to show us your emotions.”

Knife thrower Captain Ruin was unable to make the Grand Final which left nine acts to compete for the 2019 title and $100,000 prize.

After all nine performances, judges Shane, Lucy, Nicole and Manu Feildel chose four acts to face Australia’s vote – pole artist Kristy, dancer Sienna Osborne , singing housewife Jennifer Anderson and schoolgirl singer Olina Loau .

Host Ricki-Lee then handed the power over to Australia to decide who from this fab four should win the ultimate prize.

On hearing Australia’s decision, a triumphant Kristy, who only six months ago gave birth to her third child, was rendered speechless as she was joined onstage by her husband and eight-year-old daughter Rylie.

“I thought I was going to hold it together until I saw this one,” she said, looking at Rylie.

Kristy plans to put the prize money towards creating more shows for people to enjoy: “I love the faces of kids and adults when they watch these performances. Seeing them become completely immersed in another world where they can imagine and dream and be young again. I think we need more of this in the day and age we live in.”

The AGT Grand Final also featured grand illusionist Cosentino escaping the blade of a giant industrial buzzsaw, while singer Samantha Jade performed her new single ‘Bounce’.

What an amazing AGT

I’ve been in meetings which were more exciting than that winners announcement tonight…

In all seriousness, if AGT comes back next year - the show needs to be done ‘properly’ (ie; live semis & final with viewer voting playing a major role)
