Australia's Got Talent

Australia must not have talent.

But wait. Didn’t a guy win one year who could play music using gum tree leaves? That is talent.

If Seven had actually uploaded all content from the latest episode after-broadcast, social media would take it differently rather than seeing it as “another generic Got Talent series”…

I guess this is because Nine wanted to overpromote 9Now when it launched, and if Nine were still active on YT around the time of the 2016 season, Erik The (Robot) Dog would’ve been a viral hit.

I usually like this sort of thing, but I’m very much disliking this series.
Far too many troupes, ensembles, etc etc …//// …
20 massed children, dancers, acrobats or singers does not necessarily = talent. 20 mediocre performers still equals a mediocre act.

The judges need to be a little more critical.

Last night I flicked over during the commercials of Survivor and Ivan from Bachelorette / Bachelor in Paradise was on stage dancing. The blonde lady judge (I don’t even know her name) told Ivan that she “didn’t like him on that other show you were on”. He didn’t get through.

I agree completely. I hate how kids and big groups seems to get an advantage. They had that choir with all those women… there are heaps of choirs in Australia. Having more people doesn’t make it great. The same with all those dancing groups they throw on. There was on on Sunday that I thought were quite average but there were about 20 of them on stage so it supposedly equates to talent.

Seven’s summary of night included:

IVAN KRSLOVIC – Dancer

  • Shane: “You might want to cover that rig up there Ivan, our insurance doesn’t cover heart attacks in the audience.”
  • Manu: “I love cheese, a lot, but that was a little too cheesy for me mate, sorry.”
  • Nicole: “Well I love cheese too and I couldn’t get enough of that cheese, so pour some cheese on me.”
  • Lucy: “I really like the way you emote through dance and I can see that it’s your passion.”

Sounds like Shane was actually the cheesy one.

With the first final scheduled to air next Monday (August 19), that means there should be six episodes left in the season.

The AGT finale in 2016 was live and shown in 2 parts

AGT FINALS

Jessica Mauboy, Joel Creasey, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Todd McKenney and Hans join the AUSTRALIA’S GOT TALENT Semi-Finals.

The AUSTRALIA’S GOT TALENT Semi-Finals are here with an incredible 30 acts competing for a place in the Grand Final.

Judges Shane Jacobson , Lucy Durack , Nicole Scherzinger and Manu Feildel said yes to over 100 acts during auditions.

They have since faced the difficult task of narrowing this list down to their Top 30, which already included five Golden Buzzer recipients - blind singer/pianist Paul Kapeleris , seven-year-old comedian JJ Pantano , acro-dance troupe aKrobatiKa , schoolgirl singer Olina Loau and indigenous artist Mitch Tambo .

Now, the best of the best will compete for one of 10 places in the AGT 2019 Grand Final where ultimately, Australia will decide the winner of $100,000.

Joining host Ricki-Lee and the AGT judges at each of the Semi-Finals will be a celebrity guest judge who, in an Australian first, has the ability to award a Golden Buzzer to their favourite act, guaranteeing them a place in the Grand Final.

The AGT judges will then choose a second act from each Semi to go through to the Grand Final.

The guest judges are singer Jessica Mauboy ; comedian/presenter Joel Creasey ; actor/singer/presenter and star of the new production of musical Chicago , Natalie Bassingthwaighte ; entertainer Todd McKenney ; and Australia’s own 2018 America’s Got Talent finalist, Hans .

The AUSTRALIA’S GOT TALENT Semi-Finals start tonight 7.30pm with guest judge Jessica Mauboy and continue Sunday 7.00pm on Channel Seven.

Just 15 minutes into last nights show and we had a dance group with 62 members followed by another dance group with over 90 members. I thought both were quite average but of course the judges were going crazy over them. Personally I don’t think throwing more people on stage equates to talent, it actually looks like one big mess. It feels like constantly this year they are focusing on acts with large amounts of people, which is ridiculous.

Nicole is the best judge on that panel though. She’s great.

Agree - while the other judges are great in their own way, it’s clearly evident that (intentionally or unintentionally) Nicole is the ‘anchor’/‘focal point’ of the panel

Season 9 is all taped and not live at all. Would rather see the semi finals and Grand Final Live

I imagine the logistics of AGT make it harder to be live than other shows as some set ups would require a lot of set up. But I think the results show finale should be live.

Wait so they’ve recorded the entire season? Isn’t the show going to be viewer voted from this point?

Yeah the whole season had been filmed (the finals were pre-recorded last month), possibly due to Nicole’s work commitments.

This show has been a ratings success for Seven, I’ll be very surprised if it isn’t renewed and considering their recent string of under-performances.

It also shows the season that aired on Nine (with that famous audience member’s shocked face) in 2016 (?) had the casting horribly wrong, presenters and talent inclusive.

The season airing on Nine have that famous shocked audience reaction which became a popular gif on social media.

It was used for their promo for 2016.

Still been mediocre in the demographics. Even though it rated 850k last night it didn’t even manage a spot in the top 5 demos. I do agree for 7 this has been solid. Should they renew it? Probably not, points to which I will come to. Will seven renew it? Probably.

I don’t think 7 should renew it because they need to start doing some more riskier content. Viewers are dying for something new. I really think 7 should stop investing in this sort of reality trash and invest in something they have done well in the past and that resonates with their audience - drama.

Really?

If I were Seven, I’d probably want AGT to be outrating The Block in the key East Coast markets. That hasn’t been happening so far.
