This sounds like it will be a flop.
Knowing the UK it probably won’t flop.
X factor has been declining for years, this will be a do or die season
Considering it’s been around for 15 years I would say they have done well to keep the show engaging to the audience. People have been saying the same line you have for about 5 years now.
Trust me it’s dying
Yeah but as I said this was the exact comment made by the media 6 years ago when I lived there…
They have been make desperate host / judge / format changes but its just not the same “must see Saturday TV” that it used to be. And the singers are not succeeding like they used to.
I am not doubting you there. I am simply saying they have been saying the exact same thing for the last 5 years. But in the UK shows don’t simply go away like they do in Australia.
Simon is convinced now he’s figured out what the problem with The X Factor is - so he’s changing the theme tune! Nobody is convinced the Celeb and All Star series will save the show, well, except for ITV who have reportedly recommissioned it for another 3 years.
Nicole did 4 seasons here and easily the best judge of recent years so she should be good value on Australia’s Got Talent.
I’m not really across UK ratings but a quick google search shows that it was still winning Saturday nights last year and it has supposedly been renewed for 3 more years. It also rates extremely well in the key younger demos. So it must be doing terribly?
The show is 15 years old so of course it’s not going to be as big as its heyday. Nothing on Australian TV even lasts remotely that long. Massive hits like MKR and Masterchef have been showing major strains this year and they are 5 seasons short of that. I actually like the sound of this Celebrity season and might give it a go. It will either be really fun and surprisingly good or cringeworthy but the UK love their Celeb culture and Simon seems pretty confident about it.
The celeb concept is good, but it’s definatrly last roll of the dice and if it works will give everyone a break from the civilian version for a year and the appetite will be refreshed in 2020.
But its definatrly been declining for years, reputation included.
They got rid of Sharon, brought her back. Got rid of Louis, got him back. Got rid of dermot and brought in dermot and flack, then dermot came back. Forgettable attempts with nick grimshaw, rita ora. Oh yeah got rid of nicole and brought her back. Got rid of her again. Crazy format changes like booting a contestant on Saturday and then Sunday…
It’s been a train wreck, gets smashed by strictly every single week.
But this isn’t a recent thing they have been doing… they were doing this sort of stuff way back 6-7 seasons ago.
It hasn’t won Saturday nights for a long time - Strictly Come Dancing (our Dancing with the Stars) gets around 11-13m viewers, X Factor now lingers around 4-5m viewers.
A decade ago The X Factor was out in front (hitting a high of 19m IIRC), and it’s ratings dropped but held up well enough from 2011-2013 when Cowell was away doing the US version, but since he returned in 2014 they’ve just dropped year on year, and quite significantly at times, often due to poor production decisions, which IMO is because Cowell is too involved in it and can’t stop tinkering with it. The constant changes in the judging panel really haven’t helped - BGT has held up quite well and had the same judges since 2012, whilst The X Factor since 2011 has gone through 14 judges, with only 2016/17 having the same panel.
For me though the biggest mistake the show has made in the last few years it failing the two stand out acts of 2017 - the winners Rak-su and runner-up Grace. They were easily the best original acts the show had had for a few years and the show for once encouraged their originality and let them perform original songs on the show pretty much weekly, but since the show Rak-su have only had mediocre success and Grace seems to have vanished. Yes, not every act can be a Little Mix or One Direction, and the likes of James Arthur took a few years to really break through, but the shows strength has always been it’s artists and they’re not making the mark they once was - which is probably good for music, but not so good for The X Factor.
Do you have any proof of that? From what I read it was around 6 million.
There must have been some weeks or nights it won its timeslot as that’s what the article I read said which was very early last season. Maybe it was Sunday nights or I assume the Strictly Come Dancing season isn’t as long a season so they aren’t always direct competition. Anyway I think we are going way off topic here haha.
The show will also air on Monday in week one, according to a new promo shown during the AFL tonight.
Also overseas acts will take part in the show for the first time.
I assume that means the first five minutes will air across main channel, 7TWO, 7mate and 7flix? But 7mate in Queensland will be showing the AFL match between Gold Coast and Essendon, which doesn’t finish until 7.30pm.
EDIT 24/7: seems that Seven is going all out to promote the show’s return. This morning Ricki-Lee was at Nova 100 chatting with Chrissie, Sam and Browny. Straight after, a promo voiced by Ricki-Lee was played, before another generic ad was played at the end of the 8am bulletin.
So it’s not really AUSTRALIA’s Got Talent then is it? Clearly we don’t have enough talen to need internationals included.
I notice one of the promo’s features Apollo too. They are milking everything they can with this launch. Seven need this to be a hit.
Yep, during this morning’s interview on Nova, the hosts mentioned a lot of Apollo and played excerpts of his appearance on The Bachelor to Ricki-Lee.
The yourtv guide is now showing Australia’s Got Talent 7:00-7:05pm on 7TWO, 7mate, 7flix and 7Food in Sydney.
