The last episode was pretty shitty. The outcome was pretty much spoiled by less than half way through the episode. We knew pink would lose because pink featured so much and because Ten insists on spoiling everything in the promos as soon as Bogan Barbie was mentioned we knew she’d be booted as both AK and Tessa wouldn’t be a BLINDSIDE!!!
It just goes to show you why this season sucks so much with editing when that little weak guy with glasses mentions how close he is to Tara yet I can’t remember if they have even spoken to each other and no meaningful time has spent building up their relationship so he can betray her.
For all the screen time pink has received we know next to nothing about their dynamics. It was just dumped on us that that token bikini girl #2 was on the outs with AK & Jarad.
So the promos have Man bun’s fake yoga shtick being exposed, like we knew that wouldn’t happen. Honestly and some people say there are serious game players this season. Last year actually had the better game players in Brooke, Meter Maid & Elle but they were boring and didn’t make good tv.
I’m not sure how the game players are hopeless when a move was pulled off in the most recent episode where the person who went and at least 3 others had absolutely no idea what was going on. It’s early days and we still have 19 people left but we already have a strategical game going which is great to see.
I was very critical of the last season for lacking strategy and this season so far has been a vast improvement on that. Of course there are still plenty of things that irritate me, especially the gimmicky things they throw in, how one sided its becoming again and the editing is not up to scratch for a lot of it… but on a strategic level for so early in the game I’m loving it.
Chris last season didn’t lack strategy. It may have been boring, predictable and underwhelming but usually those are the telltale signs that the people that had power had total control and were brilliant at manipulation. Sure most of the players were idiots but the hold Brooke, Meter Maid & Elle had over them was impressive. I mean Elle wasn’t even an original part of Sanaapu and managed to ingratiate herself within that alliance and usurp others. I mean I hate the woman but clearly she had something however boring and pathetic she appeared.
Sue & Craig also had strategy but became complacent.
I think the large cast of hopeless duds just overshadows the strategy and strategic moves.
As for this season luck has played a massive part in a lot of player’s games. AK is just an idiot. No sane person would chuck away an idol in the hope it would garner some favour and trust. If he was as intelligent as he thinks he is he would have used that idol to forge his own alliance instead of scraping around at the bottom. As for booting Bogan Barbie it was only poor gameplay from Ape man & Tara to not secure Tessa and make their alliance feel comfortable and secure. Tessa said she was a free agent and I’m sure she would have gone with them if they had offered her something earlier.
Jericho’s idea of basing an alliance on eating cookies is just pathetic. If that was me he was sharing those manky cookies with I’d question why they were already half eaten and think well he clearly doesn’t like or trust me enough to include me from the start and was a greedy selfish cunt for eating so much first when I’m starving. Not someone to trust.
Control Freak is just a deluded mess. I still don’t get why she insisted that exactly six votes had to go on Joan and the old guy that was seemingly in her alliance. That was just needlessly reckless.
Man Bun’s strategy of lying about a profession he knows nothing about. Yeah like that would inspire trust when the shit hit the fan.
Tara is a flip flopper that needs to be coddled so as to not offend her delicate sensibilities. Someone that volatile and sensitive needs to be booted asap.
Umm no it isn’t early days. We’ve seen five episodes and half of the cast is ignored. Out of the cast that have actually appeared only Tessa seems eloquent enough with her head firmly in the game and focused on the prize. Forging social bonds so that a player gives his immunity idol idol to you is amazing game play but sadly she’s the only one I truly rate for game play so far.
I do think most of the cast are prepared to take risks but I wouldn’t confuse that with decent strategy. It’s more fly by the seat of your pants rather than thoughtful and intelligent game play and strategy.
Dude a usual Survivor season starts with 18 people. We still have 19 people. It IS early days and everyone is not going to get significant airtime when there are so many people in the game. Also there’s no point pulling big moves unless you really have to this early on because it’s not going to have any impact on the jury. It’s too far out and my main problem with a 24 person cast is exactly this. Moves this early won’t get recognised that much at the very end.
So glad Mark the buffoon is gone and his “I’m a special ops commander, I’m so clever at reading people”.
On the bottom of the tribe in his alliance with Sam, had no idea everyone else was voting for Sam, and then still had no read on Henry not really being a yoga teacher tonight.
Really hate Henry too - the yoga story coming into the game points very clearly at someone that wants their allotted screen time and more - the throwing of the challenge too, the hyperbole about him planning Sam’s demise when obviously the whole tribe hated the coupling of Sam and Mark. Can tell he wants to be a media whore once this is all done.
Great episode last night. They edited it well as I was certain Jacqui was going (or going to play Henry’s Idol to save herself). So relieved that Mark left… he was so damn annoying. Now I can only hope that the little rats who turned on her (Jercho and Luke) can go one by one. I’m certain next week though there will be a non-boot ep or some sort of tribe switch up.
Mark with his constant “when I was in the war zone” and “we were trained to evaluate the enemy after just 5 seconds”. It reminded me of “last time at band camp”
So far the tribals have been great helped I think by the fan favourites getting good outcomes.
Promo for next Sunday - “Tribal Bombshell that no-one will see coming”
What an awful episode with a pathetic/ lame twist. The Immunity challenge and Tribal Council was 100% pointless when preview showed blue tribe having to switch two people anyway next week. This has ruined what has been a good season so far for the most part.
I was out for dinner so I missed the preview when I came home. I watched the rest of the episode and was initially surprised that there would be a double elimination, which turned to be a double tribal swap. It was also quite funny to see two guys from Asaga thought they found clue on immunity idol on the make up table at the falls after winning the reward challenge, only revealing it to be tweezers and scissors.
Did they not learn anything from the backlash last year? The episode was literally 100% pointless.
These stupid gimmicks go against everything that Survivor is all about. You can’t tell a tribe you are voting someone off and then change the rules after the vote.
I don’t mind the twist. They need a particular number of episodes and to do that they need non-elimination episodes.
I would prefer to have a non-elimination twist like last night where we get a tribe voting over then some of the pointless non-elimination episodes from last season (like the Final 6 episode were they just did just a set of challenges with no Tribal Council or elimination).
They shouldn’t commit to so many episodes in the first place but even so there are so many more effective and fair ways of doing it. They could have easily shortened the episode to 60 or 70 mins, had reward challenge, tribes rock up to what they thought was Immunity challenge and told we are switching tribes and end the ep on that cliffhanger. That’s better than bending the rules of the game to try and make a twist as dramatic as possible.
Tribal Council is where you go to vote someone out of the game. Everyone voting thought they were voting them out of the game. They were told after the vote this was not the case. How is that not bending the rules? If they told the tribe that they were voting members to another tribe before the vote that would be different. This gimmick is 100% deceptive to contestants. Survivor is a strategical game not a game of producer deception.
It’s just a “twist,” pretty standard in reality shows. I see nothing wrong with it. Yeah, it may mess up some people’s strategy, but that at least makes for interesting tv.
If this was last year, I could understand that the twist could be “deceptive” but they watched last season, they should know that a twist like that is likely to occur.
