Australian Survivor

Yeah hopefully they split up the tribes soon. They wouldn’t want the yellow team losing too many more members especially with many of them being big game players (minus Sue and Kristy maybe even Connor but I like him).

Much better episodes this week. I feel Ten aren’t extending it too much and keeping it a bit tighter than in the earlier weeks. Perhaps they listened to the criticism and took it on board. I prefer watching the show without ads so have been watching it on delay this week.

Yawn, yet another stupid strategic decision. When will they stop. Why would you throw a loyal tribe member in your majority alliance under the bus for two unknown quantities. The original yellow has now ensured that none of them will win and they will all now be pre merge and early merge boots.

I like Kate, but FFS put your stupid petty grudges aside and think what’s best for your alliance in the long run. You had a chance to dump all your dead weight and keep a loyal alliance member on the other tribe safe. For someone all about the team Kate & Craig made a really petty and selfish decision.

Krusty I’m not really a fan of but I was quite surprised she couldn’t write Kat’s name down. It was a nice gesture if not strategically sound.

Nick was completely right about those stupid chickens. There’s nothing worse than dumb hypocrites who can’t stand animal cruelty yet eat the damn things, especially when said person was stuffing burgers in their gob a couple of days ago. Matt was just so pathetic in that conversation, especially after Nick divulged about his chicken nugget stockpile. He also got his ass handed to him in a physical challenge by a 59 year old granny. LOL.

On the plus side I enjoyed both challenges. Although for someone in the army El sucks at everything. I wouldn’t trust her to keep the country safe. She’s useless physically and doesn’t have any intelligence whatsoever. I also appreciated the condensed run time.

So I’m betting Lee, Sam, Phoebe, El & Kylie will be at the end. I will be shocked if anyone else is at the end instead of these five.

Was he that loyal? Only two weeks ago he was talking about eliminating Craig. Then this week talking about eliminating Kate. I think that was the smartest decision they could make. He was awful in the challenges. Too confident. Too arrogant. Numbers wise the yellows are 4 v 2 so still up. In the merge they might now be able to get the reds on their side by eliminating one of their own.

100% agree they would be eaten in the wild anyway… With that said I could stomach eating a chicken I actually saw. But those that could can get the protein they need.

Yep, there was more to play here than meets the eye. Andy also stated tonight that he couldn’t stand Kate - we hadn’t really seen any explanation for this.

Also, Channel 10 hadn’t shown us in the last episode Conner alerting Andy that others were planning on voting for him - we only learned of this tonight.

Kate was blabbering on about Andy needing to go as the weak link, even after the reward challenge where it was Sue who dropped out after one lap. How did getting rid of Andy therefore make the tribe stronger?

Kate thinks especially is pronounced expecially. A great indication of an absolute moron. To wake the whole tribe up with pots and pans also shows she lacks self-awareness. She was on the bottom of Vavau all this time for a reason.

Totally agree, Matt is so obviously full of bullshit - but then again you’d expect that from someone that self-labels themselves a ‘mentalist’. More like a mental case.

More pathetic however was that dumb bogan Sam jumping on the bandwagon, not knowing that Matt was just playing up to the cameras. He nearly ripped Lee’s head off at the reward challenge too.

This show has become completely predictable mostly thanks to the stupid Ten promo department. Every single night this week the contestant featured in the commercials has gone home! We knew Rohan would go home from the “biggest blunder ever” commercials, Kat went home when the commercials went on about her gloating how happy she was with Rohan gone and then we get a commercial about Andrew and a blindside. Note Ten… you ruin any excitement in a blindside when we are told its going to happen.

I think there have only been 1 or 2 boots where I havn’t predicted it either from commercials or within first 10 minutes of an episode…

I think 3 tribe seasons generally are better as they are a lot less predictable come the merge than 2 tribe seasons (where more often at a merge in a 2 tribe season you are more likely to have one alliance dominate). However if you are doing more than 2 tribes it comes too hard to follow without a theme. That was my issue with Aussie Survivor the first few eps was hard to keep track who was where especially with the volume of contestants. Whereas 3 tribes of 6 with a theme division makes it much easier to get to know people and distinguish tribes the first few weeks.

Are prople actually calling 84 min episodes short? Still almost 90 mins…

The reward challenge looked pretty similar to team pursuit in cycling, except that contestants were tied together and had to walk around the course carrying weights.

I don’t understand either why most of Vavau decided to release the chickens in the wild. I thought they would be eaten when there was one tribe left.

I thought it was a good length episode last night, well paced and packed with content. Prefer the AUS version to the under 43 minute episodes that the US provide, always seem too rushed and with important developments not getting enough airtime.

Jonathan is doing a good job. I’m liking the occasional back-and-forth with the contestants.

According to News Corp the show is fasttracked in New Zealand* and also shown in Samoa where it was filmed. Ten’s head of entertainment Stephen Tate says he plans to discuss with Castaway Television on more international screenings, which is always good to see.
*The show is shown on TV2 only twice a week, on Sunday and Monday nights, meaning NZ is already several episodes behind Australia.

They are also currently filming NZ’s first ever series in Nicaragua.

Well you’d think it would have it’s place on a lot of international cable channels. Someone mentioned in Zumbo thread that because Aussie reality shows have so many episodes and the eps are usually long, that is plenty of hours of content easily filled on cable networks.

They are probably using one of the old Survivor locations in San Juan Del Sur or Ometepe Island. I went to Nicaragua back in June… Amazing country!

For those worried about Survivor’s first season Stephen Tate claims it is doing exactly what they expected (BULLSHIT) just across multiple platforms. He also suggests that its a huge vote of confidence that they have sold it internationally. He claims, and is correct, that the first season is actually up on I’m a Celebrity and The Bachelor in their first seasons. So some positives from the first season of Survivor. I still question whether the cost will impact the renewal. I believe it will be renewed.

I reckon it will also be renewed.

I can’t see this being much different in cost than I’m A Celeb really and it seems like this is doing better + more hours.

Well it would be less hours wouldn’t it? Celebrity was on 5 times a week for 6 weeks. That is 30 episodes? Survivor has made 26 episodes.

It’s hard to tell if it will be renewed or not. I doubt a decision has been made but it all comes down to if Ten are making enough money off it. Is it really doing better than the first season of I’m a celeb? I saw an article on news.com.au about this that quoted incorrect numbers for Survivor (they bumped Survivors numbers up about 100k per episode). I don’t think Celeb ever dropped as low as what Survivor is getting some nights (around 550k) and I know celeb generally debuts to much greater audiences as well.

Hard to compare the costs. Celeb has a few more episodes but they also do it live as well which would be costly. Survivor however takes a couple more weeks to film so those costs have to come in as well. But then there are $$ involved in getting Celebrity’s as well. Regardless both shows would be pretty expensive and does Ten have room for both in their schedule if both are only just doing OK?

Look how cheap Bachelor would be to do and how well it performs. That show is a gold mine. Local reality is so much more bang for buck. Maybe do the next Survivor season in the Australian Outback :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m a Celeb did struggle in its first season and I believe some episodes were around 500k and it was on 3 channels.

I just looked at the ratings for Celeb and only 2 or 3 episodes of the entire first season dipped below 600k. Survivor has had that already. Plus put it in perspective… I’m a celeb is up against significantly greater competition with MKR getting 1.5-2million. Also Im a celeb airs in warmer months and during daylight savings. So its hard to compare. Survivor has such weak competition at the moment so it should be doing better. Will be interesting if it can grow as season further progresses or if daylight savings and X Factor do anymore damage.

But again I’m a Celeb was on 3 channels. I wouldn’t suggest either that The Block and Zumba is weak competition. Especially a show that had the launch pad of the Olympics. I know it has under performed (Zumbo) and is probably a flop but it needs to be understood that its not like it hasn’t got competition. I agree Survivor has under performed but it isn’t as bad as many are suggesting and there are positives.

I’m A Celeb was on 3 channels for Sundays, 2 channels for Monday to Thursday
