Australian Survivor

For once the promo did not exaggerate. A massive game changer. What a great episode, one of the best tribal councils ever. It was one shock after another for the contestants and the viewers. Can’t wait for the fall out on Sunday.

Yeah I read that in the same article that said Redemption Island would probably be back at some stage. I mean they brought back exile island and ideas get reused constantly. Jeff was a fan of the concept despite most viewers hating it and he’s never let the viewers get in the way of something that he loves considering he’s an exec producer.

He also wants to make it clear that Redemption Island is a twist the show still likes and may trot out again. “I am not opposed to Redemption Island,” says the host. “We didn’t get rid of it because people didn’t like it. We got rid of it because we wanted to find something new. It just took us a while.”

Don’t remind me. Shit cast, shit concept, shit season. Don’t forget this chestnut ‘‘Boston Rob is literally carrying his family on his back.’’ Puke.

Thanks about the heads up. I’ve known about it for a while though and can’t wait for it to air. Really not looking forward to Millennials Vs Gen X. I want Miss ‘‘Puzzles lay down for me like lovers.’’

I saw the tribal council after Zumbo finished tonight. Wow. What a big twist. Add to that voting at one tribe twice ended in a tie. Never seen it before.

Yeah I actually liked the twist. Two members switching tribes. It was good.

Last half hour tonight was CRAZYYYYYYY :fearful:

Massive twist, shocked but loved it.

I hate Nick, Phoebe, Brooke, Flick, Rohan & Matt (as of tonight)

Yeah same. That was a good episode. A longer episode - but one where the content warranted it. It must have been hard to come up with an original twist. In the end they did end up doing a tribe swap as I said they should have done tonight - just they did it by extracting maximum drama first.

A little unfair that the other tribe sat in on the other tribe’s Tribal Council, but I think that was a good decision in the end.

Conner just went too crazy throwing everyone under the bus in the end, so I think Vavau will vote him off soon enough. Sam didn’t look pleased at being brought over, lol.

Glad Nick was saved though from Vavau and hopefully he hangs around on the blue tribe.

So I guess we are to expect them to use Tribal Council for other things now than it’s intended purpose which is to vote someone off. This seems like whole heap of drama for the sake of a couple people switching tribes which happens every season anyway. It has stirred up some good drama definitely but its still very early on. 5 episodes in and still 20 contestants… 2 hours 45 mins of Survivor over the past 2 days and not a single person has been voted off. I guess this filler is to be expected at least 3 or 4 more times this season to make those episodes.

I would hope they wouldn’t do the exact same thing to switch tribes again. But I did think the ‘twist’ was quite good and I am glad they didn’t just copy American twists. I am always willing to critique but praise is warranted here. And it could be seen as complaining for the sake of complaining. It was a good episode. And although it was a very LONG episode it didn’t drag like other episodes have. I will still kindly ask them to keep it to the 60 minute lengths as much as possible.

After Tuesday’s turmoil, I found these graphics help to work out what the alliances might look like now.

And of course

Still making my way through last Sunday’s episode so I can’t read this week’s posts. Anyway, with everything that went on with the immunity idol clues it’s hard to believe there wasn’t heavy-handed intervention by the producers. For example, one contestant “accidentally” drops his clue after stuffing it in his pants, only to be found by another who just happened to go looking in the area to see if anything of interest was there.

Im not sure if producers would go to the extremes of going through a contestants pants though.

Cool behind the scenes video they posted on Facebook of how all the props are made.

Finally through all the episodes. People here seem to like the big twist, but I don’t. It was a big game-changer, sure, but LaPaglia was totally dishonest. He basically lied to them at the immunity challenge, telling them two tribe members would be voted out, so it would be “big stakes”. Then he pulled the rug out after they’d voted by telling them they weren’t voting for what he’d made them think after all. I hate that. It wasn’t big stakes at all as it turned out, but much smaller stakes. At least the producers and host should be trustworthy even if the contestants aren’t. Why should they believe anything LaPaglia says from now on? Then a flaw was exposed with the rev-vote occurring with the twist revealed, an inconsistency. And then the two guys getting to bring another member with them just seemed arbitrary and pointless.

The worst thing is the show would have lost both annoying guys wearing backwards caps in one hit!

I agree Triton. Survivor is a game of strategy. You do an immunity, you go to Tribal and you vote someone out. You can’t make contestants believe one thing and change the rules of it after they’ve voted. It puts the game too much in the hand of the producers and luck. Twists are fine but they should be consistant in a season and be able to be strategised around.

Having said that tonights actually felt like the first normal episide of Survivor of this season to me. Probably more boring to the casual viewer but there were no real gimmicks and it was a shorter episode. Much better to me than most of the season so far. Keep it this way! Let the game play itself out, we don’t need a twist or turn every week.

Very dissapointed Baz went home. Sure he wouldn’t form alliances but he could have been booted later on. Instead Bogan and Weasel get to squirrel around another day. It will be just my luck they manage to tear apart the original yellow members. Also Andrew, you decide to throw Craig under the bus before tribal. Stupid, stupid decision. You target the blues first and worry about Craig later and cultivate Sue & Kate so you have the numbers.

I hope Matt, Tegan, Nick & Kylie join together take out the rancid Meter Maid. I’m ecstatic Tegan had some development in this episode. Hopefully she steers clear of the gruesome twosome.

Toolie is just awkward. Seriously, after you slice open a coconut you had to pretend they were a pair of balls and a coconut bra. I guess those half coconuts will be the nearest thing he ever gets to an actual pair of balls. Does he not open his eyes and realise he’s a dumb pawn.

Don’t like Kristie either. Her brown nosing is so tacky and transparent.

Shame about the ratings but I can’t wait for tonight.

I thought it was unfair at first about the tribes witnessing each other’s vote off, but it did maximise the drama and hopefully put their strategic skills to use. Blue imploding was invaluable to Yellow.

I really loathe Conner the Weasel. He’s annoying, irritating, doesn’t think things through and then doesn’t have the backbone to stand by his conviction when he’s called someone out. Don’t be wishy washy, if you’re calling the sleazy Meter Maid a liar don’t back down you fool. All he succeeded in doing was undermining his own position and credibility. Complete idiot.

I really like Nick. He manages to pull of being cocky and arrogant in a really inoffensive manner. However I can see how he could rub others the wrong way. Bit shocked Jenna Louise really couldn’t stand him though. She certainly didn’t hold back her disdain for him.

Looking forward to tonight

So the tribal where they voted for someone to go to the other tribe seems absolutely pointless now given two episodes later they drop their buffs and become two tribes. I hope that Hungry Jack’s product placement from last night doesn’t become the norm.

Hold on. The commercials 2 weeks ago promised us a Tribal Council every episode. Just as this season was finding its groove for me this they’ve ruined it with a pointless episide.
