Australian Survivor

100% agree but it would definitely be a cost thing. And it doesn’t really rate that much higher. The US version hasn’t had it for a while either.

I much prefer the winner being revealed at tribal as long as they don’t fake multiple winners. Always felt doing it live in some random TV studio felt really disconnected from the show itself and no doubt everyone on the stage at that point would know how the jury had voted.

Wtaf is Ten doing? cutting costs but David Genet? Is he doing it for fun? He just won $8 mil. He’s not short of money.

JLP is one of the reasons why our version is so good! I suppose at least it’s not bloody George.

“Axed” from Survivor or replaced on another show with Mail+ spinning the headline as him being axed from Survivor then hiding the actual true story behind a paywall?

TBH surprised he’s done it as long as he has and if he is leaving would assume it’s his choice, but feel the headline here is likely bull.

Article behind paywall. What does it say?

So the story is actually about Survivor and as the headline suggests but with no evidence to support it and reads like it was written as part of a high school media studies project.

Rumours are swirling of a massive shake-up on Ten reality show Australian Survivor, with the long-serving host Jonathan LaPaglia quietly axed ahead of the 14th season.

In a controversial move, I am told he will be replaced by David Genat, the former model and Australian Survivor: All Stars champion who went on to front the ill-fated Nine series Rush, which was cancelled after a single season.

Despite the drama surrounding the 2026 season, Ten is pushing ahead with the next instalment, Australian Survivor: Australia v The World, set to launch after MasterChef.

From TV Week’s interview with JLP published in February this year:

The two seasons of Australian Survivor set to air this year (the second one is Australia V The World) were filmed back-to-back in Samoa in the last few months of 2024, with just five days break in between. Jonathan decided to use those five days to fly to Sydney to shoot season two of (Binge drama) Strife, where he plays Peter, the former boss of Asher Keddie’s character Evelyn.

So it’s certain that JLP will host Australia v The World, but who knows if David will host the next regular season when it starts filming in a couple of months’ time.

Seriously from the outside this is a really bad decision.

Maybe JLP got greedy in contract negotiations or something, but I struggle to see who can replace him.

The rumour of All-Stars winner David being the replacement, is not a decision that I have confidence in - he’s a great personality as a contestant, and could work hosting other formats … but I don’t see him working as a Survivor host - where one needs authority and maturity, in particular for Tribal Councils.

We can confirm that the upcoming season of Survivor: Australia v The World will be the last series hosted by the formidable Jonathan La Paglia.

JLP has brought a unique blend of authority, intelligence and empathy to his role as host of Australian Survivor over the last 10 years. Acting as a referee and managing the intense pressure of the game while also acknowledging the human drama unfolding, JLP has been a compelling and memorable figure in the world of Survivor.

We look forward to JLP hosting the next epic instalment of Survivor: Australia v The World, coming soon to 10. We extend our sincere gratitude to JLP for his outstanding contribution over 10 years on Survivor. We wish him continued success in his acting and presenting career.

Absolute bullshit. Cheap arse 10. You have great talent so you pay them their worth. So horrible how companies do this.

Thoughts on potential replacements? Apart from David?

Is Osher still on payroll or someone from Project?

While JPL was a great host, I always thought he lacked a bit when it came to the question at tribals; sometimes he seemed to have trouble finding questions to ask or getting the contestants to respond. Though it may not have been totally him. Perhaps Australian contestants aren’t as good at sharing. Wish him well.

Times are a changing.

Such a shame, I have enjoyed the relaxed JLP Aussification of Survivor and hope whoever takes over is given the freedom JLP had and is able to make it their own.

Maybe it is time for a female to host Survivor

The show has done well to re-boot and survive a decade, in fact more than 10 individual seasons.

I watched and really enjoyed the first few, especially that starting 2016 one near the end of that year, was just about the only thing on at the time and was a nice surprise just how good it turned out to be. Recall it did well for that time too and the winner was really good, never thought she’d take it out, was unassuming and played a top game.

Surprised but not totally shocked that LaPaglia isn’t returning after the next, deep down could’ve even been himself that had had enough or was becoming a bit bored, who knows. The production and commitment would be one of the harder ones on TV I’d imagine.

Yeh don’t think it should be a former contestant as new host.
Maybe Luke jacobz?
Ten will probably add Irwin in there but I don’t think he is suited to survivor.
