Australian Survivor

How many episodes are there this season? 24 contestants mean 21 eliminations at the maximum assuming there will be a top three at the final tribal council, not taking into account any medical evacuations. An average of two episodes per week would have meant the show would finish in the first week of November, showing three episodes per week means a mid October finish.
All the outdoor advertising, including those on trams and buses, will need to be updated quickly. Perhaps a large sticker will do?

I assumed there would be 11 weeks (22 episodes).

From Ten:

Australian Survivor Three Nights A Week - Sunday, Monday And Tuesday At 7.30pm On TEN And WIN Network.

Australian Survivor will go to air three nights a week from Sunday 28 August, at 7.30pm, as the remaining castaways prepare to outwit, outplay and outlast each other to become the sole Survivor.

This Sunday a clue for a coveted hidden immunity idol is up for grabs and everyone wants it.

Criminal cartel lawyer Phoebe from NSW is about to make her move. She is ready to deceive her red Agonoa tribe for an advantage in the game, but will her strategy back fire?

Phoebe said: “I’m playing this game hard. I want to win.”

Just saw the promo.

Much better… Tuesdays :+1:

It seems to me that they want to churn out more episodes earlier on to get to the better part of the season faster. Does anyone know the episode lengths next week? If we are looking at 90min eps still its going to be a bit much I think and could turn people away.

At this rate though come late October Ten will have nothing left to air.

I think the first episode is 100 minutes and the second 75 minutes (too long I know) if they follow the same routine I would be led to believe the third episode will go for 100 minutes as well.

In an age when people want compact viewing options…why does every Australian network broadcast programmes that are 90 mins long? Who is going to spend that long each evening watching this? Seriously.

Hate that contestant with the ugly spiderweb tatt. Such a typical Ten casting decision - massive bogan with an ocker ugly accent.

You mean Sam Webb the co-founder and CEO of the mental health and suicide prevention organisation LIVIN? Superficially at least seems like the opposite of a “bogan”

Yes, exactly the sort of “job” I imagine a bogan like him to have.

Lol. Agree. I also really hate the Meter Maid and her incessant smirks. She thinks she has it all and it’s in the bag. Hope her Siamese Twin stabs her in the back.

You mean the cheap in built ploy that will help him win. If he wants to be magnanimous or a good Aussie, Survivor is not for him. See ya.

Really glad that Ten has decided to run three episodes, however I think it will be a detriment to it’s ratings. It’s pretty much the same shtick every episode. Masterchef at least mixed it up and The Block has those stupid room reveals. Like I said before, Survivor starting it in August was a stupid decision. Ten must be really worried with the warmer weather coming.

Yeah I agree that it’s overkill and the format is pretty much the same structure every night so I’m not sure it’s going to help things ratings wise unless they shorten the ep lengths. 90 mins on Sunday was actually 105 mins too. If Monday felt like it dragged to me can you imagine a third episode in a week of even longer length? Geez.

I notice they have new commercials running as well which look like the sort of thing they should have ran pre-season with big words on the screen like ‘Tribal Council Every Night’. Last minute desperate push to kind of relaunch it seems. Whilst this will fill a void on Tuesday’s in Tens schedule it could push viewers away as well.

Totally agree. I actually didn’t mind Sunday’s long episode. It was the premier and 24 contestents but it certainly did feel like longer than 90 minutes of content. I guess it’s that dragging feeling when you have a bunch of dud characters.

If 10 don’t shorten Tuesday’s Survivor it will tank. The show that they’ve aimed Survivor for has been young immature Millennials and most of those don’t have the patience or willing to sit through boring crap. It’s a typical 10 fiasco. Finally produce the show well but kill it with casting and over running.

Some people actually think that 10 is happy with the ratings and is using Survivor to plug Tuesday’s disaster ratings. LOL. 10 have never been concerned with Tuesday’s crap ratings before and they’re hardly going to start now when the ratings year is almost over though you’re right it will plug a hole. I can almost smell the panic at 10.

Agree. Some of us can still remember the butchered Mole format of episodes without an elimination. Having that tagline of every night a tribal council would have worked wonders and yes the last minute ‘relaunch’ when the show has already begun would be hilarious if it wasn’t so disappointing. If only they had watched The Big Adventure to know not what to do.

3 episodes a week… that means if I want to keep watching I now need to invest 4.5 hours a week to it… grrrrr it infuriates me so much I really want to watch survivor and I enjoy it but I don’t have this much time.

Australian networks ruin everything. Less is more guys.

The first two episodes will be repeated on Ten this Saturday night after the Bledisloe Cup rugby test from Wellington (check local guides).
The ad breaks during The Bachelor tonight were bombarded with promos for Survivor.

It was okay, but far short of the original. Better than Zumbo.

The host is a bit grating. It seems like he’s acting a part.

The worst thing is there’s a bunch of contestants wearing caps backwards, even a female, which you hardly ever see. It’s intolerable and they all have to go.

They must be a really boring lot for some of the dreadful banter in the camps to make it into the final edit.

I’m glad Des was out quickly because his accent was killing me.

Why didn’t Pete vote for himself if he thought he was the weakest and the tribe would be better off without him?

Before the challenge in ep. 2 there were a couple of mentions that one tribe had lost “both challenges”, but I remember only one challenge (immunity) in ep. 1.

You can’t vote for yourself.

There was a challenge at the beginning to get fire.

I wondered if the initial challenge was one of the two. One tribe got fire and the other two didn’t, but I wouldn’t call that ‘losing’. It wasn’t like coming last in an immunity challenge.

I think its against the rules and obviously he wants to leave the game properly. Might be a clause to do with $$$$

If Pete was the weakest link, then the team should’ve voted him out. But no they didn’t as they consider him to be a valuable to the team

I don’t think that was the case. I think it was more strategic rather than having stronger members of a tribe. I think the two girls saw that (whatever her name) was going to eventually try a move to vote one of them out and acted to try and get her out first. It worked. It was actually a really smart move. They didn’t want to be on the back of a blindside so they go rid of the threat. I would have done the same thing.
