With the lack of content on 10 for next year I am surprised they aren’t going to attempt two seasons. Filming two seasons back to back could be more financially suitable.
They may film two seasons back to back, but they shouldn’t air two seasons in any year given its likely the show will slot back into Q3 from next year and it will be too much at the back end of the year.
Yeah that is true they could still film the two seasons back to back. If they did I could see it slotting back into Q1 in 2022.
A bit left of field, but they could possibly do a second special season and make it a Paramount+ original for early next year for the services relaunch - the show seems to have a very solid core audience.
Could be relatively cost effective doing seasons back to back, just depends on availability of crew for extra filming, where they secure for location etc.
I couldn’t see them doing a second season as an exclusive. I think that will be mainly drama.
O/T but rebranding their on demand service under the Paramount brand seems pretty dumb considering the Paramount Channel rebranding around the world hasn’t particularly worked either. All Access makes far more sense - they can role it out internationally plus localise it by prefixing it with their local channel names.
Back to Australian Survivor and filming two series back to back would make sense. I can’t see them making it exclusive to Paramount+, though they could air the next episode exclusively or perhaps the Jury villa stuff.
I agree though the break will do it good - and probably the same in the US too though I’m amazed they’d fork out for the low rated Love Island to film in the US but not for their top rated and longest established reality show.
I agree, I would predict this is the most likely outcome, and will probably begin the long term pattern of 2 series a year which probably would have followed this year. I also would not surprised if 7 does the same with BB eventually.
I had no idea about this. But did anyone else know Benji from season 3 is dating Jennah from season 1?
Survivor will be local this year according to this interview:
Ive heard it’ll be filmed in FNQ, which’d make sense. Interesting that they’re planning it for Q4 not Q3. I wonder if that means we won’t see Survivor back in Q1 2022?
I actually wouldn’t be at all surprised if this ends up being held over until next year
Survivors Ready? Australian Survivor Sets Up Camp In Queensland.
Season 6 Coming Soon To 10.
After five successful seasons stranded on an island in both Samoa and Fiji, it’s time to bring Australian Survivor home to tackle a new kind of setting.
Swapping the sea breeze, cold sand and palm trees for the vast outback of northwest Queensland, castaways will really need to be ready for a unique set of challenges in Cloncurry.
A hot spot on Burke and Wills’ inland expedition back in 1861, it’s also the birthplace of the Royal Flying Doctor’s service and situated next door to ghost town Mary Kathleen.
With its rich history and epic landscape that includes iconic red dirt, towering rock formations and spectacular fresh water dams, Cloncurry is the perfect place to really change things up.
While sand everywhere may not be the biggest gripe this season, there will be bigger challenges and a different set of skills put to our castaways to the ultimate test.
Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President, ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand, Beverley McGarvey said, “We are thrilled that our new Australian Survivor castaways will have the chance to outwit, outplay and outlast each in other, right here in Queensland, Australia. Outback Queensland’s harsh climate and challenging weather conditions will turn the game on its head.
“Moving from the beaches of Fiji to the outback of North Queensland will shift the game in a way we haven’t seen before. If the castaways think they know how to play the game, they will need to think again.”
Endemol Shine Australia CEO, Peter Newman said, “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Screen Queensland to bring our critically acclaimed Survivor to Queensland, we look forward to showcasing Cloncurry’s unique beauty to audiences both in Australia and around the world.
“Importantly, the production acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the Land, the Mitakoodi People, and are consulting with the local Aboriginal community to gain a deeper understanding of the country on which the series will be filmed,” Mr Newman said.
Most exciting news today. I checked this before the covid thread.
Surprised they’re going inland and haven’t opted for a coastal location.
Could be due to vast spaces available inland?
It was fairly big news on breakfast radio this morning in Queensland - even on ABC Radio it was the second story.
The second season of American Survivor was filmed in the Australian outback so I’m surprised it hasn’t happened since. It was always one of my favourite seasons.
Press release from Federal Arts Minister Paul Fletcher
Production of the iconic reality television franchise, Australian Survivor, has been lured to Australia with $3.9 million in funding from the Morrison Government’s Location Incentive Program.
Previously filmed in Samoa, and most recently in Fiji, Australian Survivor will take advantage of Australia’s effective management of the COVID-19 pandemic and film its sixth season at Cloncurry in north-west Queensland. Filming will begin in coming months.
Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said the production is expected to inject more than $29 million into regional Australia.
“Australian Survivor was one of the many world–renowned productions jeopardised by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why we are pleased to provide $3.9 million to get the series back on our screens in 2021,” Minister Fletcher said.
“Local production of the show’s sixth season will support businesses in regional Queensland and create 150 employment opportunities for local crew, providing a major boost to the Australian economy.”
Australian Survivor is produced by Endemol Shine Australia, one of the world’s fastest-growing media production brands, and will feature across the platforms of Network Ten, including 10 Play, later this year.
Beverley McGarvey, Chief Content Officer and EVP of ViacomCBS Australia & New Zealand, said: “Rich in history, the town with a heart of gold has a lot to offer and we are thrilled we will be able to showcase Cloncurry and all its natural beauty. With thanks to the Australian Government’s Location Incentive Program, we look forward to working with the local community to bring Australian Survivor to life.”
Endemol Shine Australia CEO, Peter Newman said, “We are delighted to be bringing Survivor home onto Australian soil with the help of the Australian Government’s Location Incentive Program. We look forward to working with the local community of Cloncurry to bring their unique and stunning landscape to Australian and international audiences. This is an exciting new chapter for the Australian format.”
The production will work with training institutions, including the Australian Film, Television and Radio School to provide up and coming screen talent with mentorships and the opportunity to build expertise in television production.
Australian Survivor is supported under the Australian Government’s $400 million boost to the Location Incentive, in response to COVID-19, to create a pipeline of large-budget projects, which is generating tens of thousands of Australian jobs in the screen industry over the next seven years.
Support for this production brings to $190 million the total amount of Location Incentive funding provided to date, attracting 19 productions to Australia with production budgets totalling $1.47 billion and providing an estimated 11,800 jobs for Australian cast and crew.
Other productions funded under the Location Incentive which are currently in production include Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, MGM’s Thirteen Lives and the feature film Blacklight.
The Location Incentive is available for “footloose productions,” defined as those that would not be expected to film in Australia in the absence of funding support.

Cloncurry’s Mayor Greg Campbell said local landowners and traditional owners had been able to point the crew in the right direction to the best filming places of the vast outback landscape.
“It’s been a reasonably poorly kept secret around town,” Cr Campbell laughed.
"We’ve had the location scouts for the show coming to town probably since November last year.
“We were in the mix with another couple of towns and just the natural beauty of what we had to offer, all the businesses that can contribute and support the program came to the fore and the team settled on Cloncurry as the best location.”
“The first of the crew is already on-site, they’ll start to rock up en masse in a couple of weeks,” he said.
I wonder, could they film 2 seasons back to back given the instability of borders… I’m hungry for more Australian Survivor it is such a well made show.
