You would think that this show could go ahead - if 10 can film a show like The Bachelorette… and I know TARA is in pre-prod then Survivor should be able to go ahead - the nature of a show like Survivor is assumed to be an easier production as well as the show itself is basically in its own little quarantine.
QLD is probably perfect local - isolate the crew and contestants on a Whitsunday Island for 2 weeks before filming and then you can guarantee being properly COVID-free.
Yeah I agree, the problem is not so much physical distancing restrictions (coz its fairly easy to isolate the cast) but more the infrastructure required for all the challenge sets to be built - they have this already set up in Fiji, plus they receive support from the Fiji government, so without tourism sponsorship in Aus its probably not financially viable. Also wouldn’t be surprised if they’re hoping to film in Fiji (thus why Tate said theyre waiting for the right time).
Yeah that’s why the US couldn’t do their next season somewhere in the US. All their props, sets etc are in Fiji. Then it would have been too costly an exercise to consider doing it elsewhere.
Possibly not a bad thing for the longevity of the show. They had two seasons very close together with a lot of the same players, twists etc. This forced rest may give it more life when it eventually comes back.
McGarvey told Mediaweek 10 has two locations ready for the next season of Australian Survivor . “We just haven’t made the final decision yet. We may shoot in Australia. We are shooting I’m A Celebrity and The Amazing Race in Australia, but there is no final decision yet on Survivor.”
I’d guess a february start date is out of the question if basic decisions like that have not been made yet. Survivor might take the post MC midyear slot replacing bachelor in paradise.
It sounds very up in the air. I assume that they are remaining hopeful to film in Fiji early-mid next year, which would be preferable to a backup Aussie location.
I guess they are leaving their options open, there may be more incentives to film overseas but they have a backup option in Australia if that falls through.
10 won’t be considering rolling out two seasons of any of its major franchises in 2021. “To be frank, giving all the complexities with production at the moment, one each of those shows is enough.”
