Australian Idol

Viewers had to go to Australian Idol’s Instagram page and look at its Stories and vote for their favourite song. However they only had “a couple of hours” to do it. Given the three-hour time difference, by the time tonight’s episode finishes in WA, voting would have closed, so viewers in the state will have missed their opportunity to vote.

I did manage to grab screenshots of the two choices for each contestant and also cast votes for a couple of contestants.

Ivana: Edge of Midnight (Miley Cyrus) or Dusk Til Dawn (Zayn featuring Sia)
Isaac: Wonder (Shawn Mendes) or Everytime (Britney Spears)
Dylan: One Summer (Daryl Braithwaite) or End of the Road (Boyz II Men)
Drea: Sucker (Jonas Brothers) or No Tears Left to Cry (Ariana Grande)
Denvah: God Only Knows (The Beach Boys) or Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Cyndi Lauper)
Kiani: A Thousand Miles (Vanessa Carlton) or Mad World (Tears for Fears)
Trent: She Looks So Perfect (5 Seconds of Summer) or To Her Door (Paul Kelly)
Amy: Always (Bon Jovi) or What Was I Made For (Billie Eilish)

This doesn’t surprise me at all regarding the picking of the songs in advance as I remember back in the day reading that this was the case in the original Idol seasons too. I don’t have any problem with it. It’s not a big deal when/how a song was selected, ultimately it’s the performance that matters.

TJ was interesting to chat to - he didn’t think being ‘unique’ was the reason for his departure. Also spoke to Tyler - I think he will have a future in the industry with his band

Delta Goodrem has posted on Instagram that she will perform her latest single Hearts on the Run on the grand final in late March. She was a guest judge during the Sydney auditions on season 7 in 2009.

The top 8 contestants found out the song each of them had to perform in eight different ways. For example, Drea appeared in person at Nova’s Ricki-Lee, Tim and Joel last Wednesday afternoon, March 6, and Ricki-Lee revealed live on air that Drea would perform No Tears to Cry (at the 27th minute of this podcast).

Trent went to the pre-match function at the SCG ahead of the AFL season opener between Sydney and Melbourne on Thursday evening, and was given a football by Shirvo from Sunrise, which showed the song title She Looks So Perfect.

I doubt Trent was left to this late to be given his song, as he would only have less than two days to learn the lyrics and rehearse.

All fake lol.

They know weeks in advance. That kind of stuff is fake.

Australian Idol dream within reach

Top 6 shoot for the stars

Tonight on Australian Idol, Drea Onamade and Kiani Smith said goodbye, as the Top 6 secured their place live on Channel Seven and 7plus.

Before hosts Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie revealed who was safe and who would have one final chance to perform for their spot, the incredible Top 8 took to the stage for a joyful performance of Rush by Troye Sivan.

Australian Idol host Ricki-Lee also took to the stage with a spectacular performance of the title track off her brand-new chart-topping album On My Own.

Across Australia, 3.3 million votes were placed, putting Dylan, 30 from Bangalow; Denvah, 24 from Rockhampton; Drea, 26 from Perth; and Kiani, 17 from Bribie Island, in the bottom four.

After the announcement, judges Kyle Sandilands, Marcia Hines and Amy Shark reflected on Australia’s voting choices. All three were shocked Dylan placed in the bottom four after his incredible performance last night.

Kyle said: “That sucks, that’s wrong. There must be a recount. That’s some poor voting from home.”

As the bottom four artists took to the stage again, Drea admitted: “I’m ready to sing. No matter what happens, happens.”

Dylan proved his “real artistry” on Kings of Leon’s Use Somebody, leaving the crowd chanting his name, while Drea impressed with her edgy performance of Kylie Minogue’s Can’t Get You Out of My Head.

Denvah’s rousing rendition of Hold Back the River by James Bay left Kyle declaring: “One of my faves in the contest made me love a genre of music I thought was for losers!”

Kiani’s final performance of Feeling Good by Nina Simone reinforced a voice beyond her years.

Kyle called it “another beautiful performance”, as Kiani reflected on landing in the bottom four: “It does suck. It’s really sad, but we get to sing again, and I enjoy singing every time I’m on the stage.”

Marcia shared: “You’ve got such great musicality beyond your years. I love your voice and your choices in songs. You did beautifully.”

Amy admired the teen’s focus adding: “The way you apply yourself every week…this has really blown my mind to see you take this so seriously and take it to the top. I’m such a fan of you.”

On leaving the competition, Kiani said: “Thank you. It’s been a lifetime experience I will always cherish. Thank you for helping me get this far, it’s been amazing.”

After Drea’s elimination, Amy reflected: “It’s just really sad. I don’t want to see you go. I’ve enjoyed every single performance.”

Drea sent a shoutout to her family, friends and students declaring: “This is not the end of Drea, good luck you will be seeing me!”

Kyle encouraged both talented performers declaring: “Don’t think it’s over yet, life continues, we want to hear the music.”

Sunday 7.00pm on Australian Idol: It’s heroes and tributes week, where The Top 6 will fight for a life-changing spot in the Grand Final.

The Australian Idol Top 6:

This week the four contestants with least viewer votes had to sing again, with two more to be sent home. With only six left next week, could it be the bottom four again, or just bottom three?

Probably bottom 4 they need to pad out the results show. It’s an hour after all.

Tonights show was an hour and 20 minutes long. Having the bottom four perform helped with the padding. Even Ricki-Lee sang a song, with a very quick clothing change too…

There will be a lot of padding next week too. Lol

This would’ve been pre-recorded.

Last year I attended a Monday night live results show and the performance of “I Ain’t Worried” by OneRepublic (who were touring the country) was pre-recorded sometime within the 6:00pm hour.

According to the synopsis posted on Your TV online guide, three contestants will be eliminated on next Monday’s show, so maybe a bottom four again.

The top six are about to be halved. Contestants will do all they can to secure an elusive final three spot and become the 2024 Australian Idol.

Made even quicker by the fact that she could find her original dress to get changed back into a mile off… even in the dark. It was very bright!

It’s been mentioned here that guest performances (and I believe the group performance) are recorded before the live show.

That is the same as last year I believe. I doubt there will be a bottom next week - they will just announce the 3 of the 6 that go.

Notice the voting this season that generally speaking, contestants from small towns are doing well. I believe the only person left that is not from a country town is Ivana, who has fallen in the bottom every week that she could be voted for too. It seems like these smaller towns are really throwing their support behind some of these contestants, Which I find a bit annoying - Trent and Isaac need to go. Isaac especially, who is definitely one of the weakest in the top 12 but is getting a bit of a free ride because of his back story too.

There is a Top 3 Sunday 24 March with the 90-minute Finale on Monday 25 March.

Top 3 synopsis: It’s the final 3! With just one night until the 2024 Australian Idol crowned, contestants will give performances that everyone will remember.

What could they possibly do for 90mins. Maybe a group performing then 3 finalist each sing their own song & delta’s performance & winner announced but all that probably doesn’t take 90mins

If they can fill a normal results show for 90 minutes, they would easily fill that for the finale. Back in the day they were a good 3 hours.

Weren’t the rest of the top 12 previously all invited back to perform a medley with each performing their best song on the show?
