It looks like they want to wrap up the season before Easter weekend,.
Does anyone remember Season 3 of Idol?Yes it seems a long time ago and it was still on the Ten network.A bit of trivia from that season,Emily Williams ,the runner up,actually worked at my former workplace for a couple of months in 2005 ,just before she appeared on the show that year.Marcia Hines is the only original judge from back then .

Kyle Sandilands replaced Dicko (who defected to Seven to host My Restaurant Rules) that season.

Ok thanks , I forgot Dicko had departed the show that year,

Jessica Mauboy, who performed on the top 12 performance show, was back as a special guest for tonight’s top 10 performance episode. Matchbox Twenty, who was in Sydney for its concert tour, also made an appearance.

Amy Shark will perform in Tuesday’s results show.

Too much padding on the last two nighrs - on which judge chose the songs. The contestants trying to guess so the judges can “win a trophy”, although done in light spirit, didn’t add much at the end.

For a pre taped show, it still ran overtime!

I thought it was actually interesting to see who picked each song.

I think the level of singing on Sunday and Monday made up for any padding. Everyone was really quite good.

It kind of gives an insight into it the judges know who the contestants are and selecting songs to further the development of the singers etc or just giving random song

Like some others above, I don’t mind the process of guessing who picked the song. It’s just a bit of lighthearted fun and provides a bit of banter between the contestants and judges. The parts that I think should be sped up are the intro packages for the contestants prior to their performance. They should be shorter and sharper.

The running overtime is annoying. I record the show on my Foxtel box and watch it a bit later in the night but we realised last week that we need to record the show afterwards as well to avoid missing the ending.

This week was another week where one group was much better than the other. Enjoyed most performances on Sunday (except for TJ) however last night wasn’t as good with a few weaker performers. At least the best of them Amy was made safe.

The process of guessing was good and light hearted, but for me, it could have sped it up slightly.

Agree that the pre-package segments before each segment was a tad long for each contestant. Yes, there was good insoght in eachbstory, why they chose the song etc, but again, could have sped it up slightly.

Not sure if anyone picked this up but Matchbox20 was actually in Sydney the week before last so you get the feeling he already knew what he was singing 10 or so days ago.

Yeah, the contestants know many weeks in advance what they are going to be singing. They even practice and everything and if they get voted out before they sing it then too bad lol.

The whole program is scripted to the T.

Didn’t Ivana mention when picking the songs that she needs to impress after being in the bottom 2? So that indicates that the song were selected after the Tuesday elimination

Trust me. They know everything weeks in advance. They even practice songs in case they get placed in the bottom two. At least two or three weeks in advance. They are learning multiple songs each week.

Ok so they probably pick the songs early on and do the package for it with surprise guests & vocal coach etc early too. But they probably recorded the choosing of 1 song out of the 3 after the elimination last week. Cause Ivana wouldn’t know she was in the bottom 2, 2 weeks in advance

Yep, that’s right. They know the actual song weeks in advance but film the picking of the song once they’re in the bottom. It’s all fake bro, I’m telling you. A family member was in the top 12 last year.

Top 8 ready to shine

Tyler and TJ eliminated from Australian Idol

Tonight, TJ Zimba and Tyler Hammill were eliminated from Australian Idol after the nation locked in their Top 8 artists live on Seven and 7plus.

The Top 10 came out of the gates with an electric group performance of Silverchair’s Straight Lines, before taking to the stage to hear who was safe and who would sing again for their spot in the competition.

Across the country, more than 2.1 million votes were placed, with TJ, 24, from Karratha; Tyler, 21, from the Sunshine Coast; Ivana, 20, from Victoria; and Kiani, 17, from Bribie Island landing in the bottom four.

Award-winning singer-songwriter and Australian Idol judge Amy Shark also took to the stage with a stunning performance of her new single Beautiful Eyes.

After hosts Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie revealed the bottom four contestants, judges Kyle Sandilands, Marcia Hines and Amy gave their thoughts.

When asked if Australia got the voting right, Marcia said: “I don’t know. What is starting to become apparent is people are choosing their favourite. This is hard for us, we chose these guys, we just have to be hands off while Australia is hands on.”

Kyle said: “It’s the best year we have ever had as far as talent is concerned.”

Ivana showed off her “smashing” vocals on Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis, leaving the judges shocked she had placed in the bottom four again, while TJ’s final performance of Drake’s Hotline Bling proved his unique artistry.

Tyler’s performance of James Bay’s Let It Go had the audience mesmerised, while Kiani was applauded for her version of Vance Joy’s Riptide.

TJ was praised by the judges for his bold reinvention of Aussie classic You’re The Voice on Sunday’s show, but Kyle admitted it could have been too much for older voters.

TJ said: “I am really proud of my performance. It’s a song that deserved to transcend generations and I feel honoured to perform it for a new generation.”

Before TJ took to the stage for his final performance, Kyle bluntly reflected: ‘You were great at the audition but maybe this is all you’ve got. You’ve got to bring it up a notch. You are great but not superstar great. You’ve got to kick it up.”

Marcia admitted TJ polarised people but praised his individuality. “I dig you so much man, you are so different.”

On leaving the competition, TJ said: “Thank you so much to the judges who have helped craft me into an artist who is ready to take on the world. Everything you have done has meant so much to me. I feel like I walked through this door for people to be inspired. I want to leave it open for people to come through.”

Kyle implored TJ: “Put your record out. I’m sure it will do great.”

On Tyler’s elimination, Kyle declared: “You are great. We know we will see you again. If this is your last night on this stage, it’s certainly not your last night on a stage.”

Amy said: “Your voice is stunning. You really do belong on a stage.”

A grateful Tyler shared: “Thank you for betting on me as an artist and the amazing feedback. This isn’t the end. This has helped me exponentially with my career and what I love to do.”
